Can someone show me how to use SynthJacker properly

I have trouble using SynthJacker internal AudioUnit. I think it’s the timing aspect of it that’s messing up my samples. Does anyone have an idea or a Cheet Sheet for the SynthJacker timing (Length, Decay, Gap) for different types of instruments or sounds. I don’t really understand it and the videos online don’t help me as much. They always end up with an additional sample recorded at the end that’s cut off half ways. It also doesn’t trim off the silence in the beginning, though sometimes it does, but most the time all samples are different. Some of the samples will be recorded perfectly but another sample from the same recorded file will be “Jacked”. I want it to record all the samples from start to end like a regular oneshot and not be adding the next sample over in the end of it. Or is this a bug that can’t be helped. I don’t know forsure if it’s the timing it could be something else. I tried that trimming silence option in the settings but didn’t help out, I don’t understand that part.

Maybe you could make a screen recording of a failed attempt. Someone might be able to spot if there is an issue in how synthjacker was setup or something about what you are sampling that is confusing it.

You have listed the complaints that led me to stop using synthjacker… too much hand editing was required.
Eventually an alternative arrived and that’s what I use for auto-sampling.

Maybe someone will provide alternatives to chop the individual notes out of a long synthjacker recording.

Maybe breaking the process in just an octave at a time you could benefit from using Koala’s auto-chop feature.

The developer of synthjacker @coniferprod is a great guy and this was his foray into making an IOS app. He was accepting input from users for many months and it was getting better but the extra silence in the samples made it hard to like. But silence does beat chopping off that precious note start.

I just use AudioLayer to get samples from hardware synths using its autosampler (connecting things through AUM).

I recently also used AudioLayer to get instrument samples from Garageband into other DAWs, but this is a more manual process as the Autosampler doesn't trigger a GB instrument and you need to play a Midi track through it.

Do you have to record the samples in GB yourself. That’s the only way I know of. I’m looking for a way to slice all those GB samples and save each one individually+rename in the files app instead of having one big audioclip of recorded samples and not knowing how to slice them up to save. The only way for me is Cubasis 3 you can edit and trim them, but to trim them and save to your files to use in something like Audiolayer or Chameleon I don’t know how to do. What’s the exact process you do for using multi sampled GB instruments sampled with AudioLayer. I thought GB doesn’t have midi, so how would you play a midi track through it. I don’t know much about using midi. Do you know of any videos explaining the midi part with GB.

The short version is that I just create a track in Garageband with different ascending notes then press play then stop for each note, recording it into Audiolayer. This is a bit tedious as Audiolayers autosampler doesn't work in Garageband.

If you don't want GB instruments, and want samples from an external hardware synth then the Audiolayer autosampler works fine from AUM.

I believe AudioLayer and Chameleon are the only other auto sampling apps. Its probably Audiolayer is what @McD ios alternative. I would use SynthJacker with AudioLayer and that was a bunch of trimming I had to do on SynthJackers part if the samples weren’t screwed up as bad. Chameleon’s auto sampling is perfect. If only SynthJacker had that good auto sampling I would still be using it with Audiolayer. I never auto sampled from Audiolayer and don’t know if it’s now remotely capable of doing what SynthJacker did when using both together. AudioLayer is rated as the best, but I’ve been using Chameleon for auto sampling. Chameleon has things I don’t like about it but I been able to enjoy it which matters most.

SynthJacker is great with one caveat… the resulting samples have excessive silence on the start of the sample. To use these samples you must do a ton of hand editing. I tried to get the developer to address the issue but I’m sure sales of the app came to a halt. If he had added a final pass to trim starting slice I’d have supported the app with positive reviews and such. The starting silence tended to get longer and longer as the sampling process went forward.

The dev's post is a year old. I had good luck using Auditor's auto-trim in a batch-process on the samples produced by synthjacker
