More low effort not-music: Mirages Of Unknown Cities Hanging In The Air

“If a mirage cannot be traced to the known upon this earth, one supposes that it is either a derivation from the unknown upon this earth, or from the unknown somewhere else.” - Charles Fort

Pioneering collector of reports of strange phenomena Charles Fort (August 6, 1874 – May 3, 1932) included many accounts of sky bound cities in his various publications, including mentions of marvels over Liverpool, Dublin, Chicago, and even in the fastnesses of Alaska, to all of which he applied his personal edit of Occam’s Razor, as highlighted above.

Forte did not mock science; but nor did he accord this system of belief automatic precedence over any other, in the absence of supporting evidence or relevant, demonstrable facts. I still find this Fortean way of thinking a useful approach to the mysteries of existence.

Giant Isopod again, ably assisted here by one of @Krupa’s very excellent valve bass growls, from his Metropolis sample pack, and sundry Moogerfoogers. This week I seem to be still attempting to till the soil of that potentially fertile sliver of ground between the territories of Dark Ambient and Noise, in the sonic Venn diagram known by some as ‘what, you call that music?’ :)

  • You had me at the title but the actual piece and accompanying text are more than “just” a Creations entry: This really feels worthy of a Project / Release: Digital with PDF text(?) Physical with liner notes / booklet(?) That is of course, if you think so too.

    Regardless: Amazing concept / execution.

@Proppa : Thank you! That’s a very interesting thought. I keep intending to organise the more successful noises from my output into albums to put onto Bandcamp and release to the streaming sites, but every time I sit down to do it, I get waylaid and end up making more new stuff instead!

A pdf booklet to accompany some of my more esoteric pieces is a very appealing idea. I’ve seen it work for the ongoing folk horror project which is A Year In The Country : https://folkhorrorrevival.com/tag/a-year-in-the-country/, in fact I’m looking at a print of theirs as I type this, and I have also purchased several of their beautifully produced CD compilation albums so far as well.

It’s a big step up and sideways in terms of effort to do well, though. I’ll have to think about it quite long and hard. I wouldn’t want it to be anything less than good.

  • You call it sound design, simply because that is what it is. And! Nice work, again.

  • Oh wow this is excellent. Great work as always! For not being music it definitely sounds great to me 😉

  • Wow ! how you do those amazing sounds I will never understand. Great work !

  • Will listen shortly, but the thread title alone makes the visit to this thread worthwhile

  • Love this! Your "non-music" pieces are true pieces of art! ❤️

impressive cold alien mood .. in my head i see abandoned spaceship, where all crew was killed by some weird entity which they found on some random planet and made mistake to take it on board ..

btw who said "low effort not-music" to this kind of music ? I think it was just one guy who actually never presented himself on this forum with any kind of music or any creative outcome whatsover (trolling doesn't count as creativity)

  • Majestic. And a wonderful ripost!

  • Wonderful blend of sounds. I was a big fan of Charles Fort and used to subscribe to Fortean Times many years ago!
