ZENBEATS auv3 recording problem

Hi there, i downloaded ZB, i m on V1 trying things out in regards to unlock to V3.
Right now i m able to load up Koala as an instrument track but not able to record the midi sequence i tape on Koala pad through a ZB cell. Is it because they don t allow m until i upgrade to v3 ?

i see the waveform on the cell moving as far as i hit the koala pads but nothing record. My instrument track is armed, i ve got all 16 midi channel output set up on the top of my inspector track.
Thing is i can record via the piano roll of ZB but can't with koala pad or even when i launch a koala midi sequence to be record inside ZB cell.

I tried via the timeline view to record , same thing.

my guess is a routing problem but i use cubasis iOS and live on desktop and never experiment this sort of issue.

If someone ran through this before i m all hears cheers

  • Enable Print MIDI FX in the track settings.

Koala doesn’t output midi from its sequencer so that’s not going to work in Zenbeats or any other host.

In the midi settings for the Zenbeats track there’s a setting to print AU midi to the track. Do you have that enabled? It’s off by default. Koala does output midi from the pads, so that might work - for pad output only. I can’t try it at the moment.

The pads do output midi when tapped/played with so maybe that is what the OP is trying to do?
Ie. play the Kaoala pads and record the midi into ZenBeats and have ZenBeats play the midi back and trigger samples in Koala.

  • Thank you DMFAN /WIM / SAMU

I only find print midi fx when i load an arpeggio or rosetta stuff, i enable the setting in the midi track menu, try to record , no midi line has been record. My track is armed, i clic the little circle record button on the cell i want to record and hit the main record button on the top bar and after the preroll start hitting the koala pad , vu meter is moving so signal coming in but no midi info inside the cell after i stop the recording.

  • Here is the set up Koala as an auv inside ZB. Track is arm. cell is create

  • Hitting Koala pads signal is coming as we see in the vu meter

  • Check out the print midi fx is on inside the midi section of the track

  • Arming the cell record button

  • launching the record after engaging the main record button on the top row

  • Hitting the koala pad while recording signal s coming while recording

  • Playing back my recording, nothing happens while the square little thing on the right down side of the cell is playing.

  • Check out the piano roll of the cell to see if midi note has been implement. As you can see nothing was print.

  • Don't want to be pushy but If it is not too much to ask. What am i doing wrong ? Scratching my head but have no clue what to do next.

    Cheers

  • The best way to record automation is with a midi controller hardware. That is the only way I do it. So I can only recommend you try using a midi controller if you have one .
If not I’m not sure how to do it myself

I don’t know why auv3 work “better” in Cubasis sometimes but Roland should look at improving the Auv3 system if possible

However, being said, Zenbeats works best with my hardware , Better than all other DAW especially for auv3 recording (except DRAMBO!)

  • Hi dreamcartel, My issue is not about automation it s is just about recording midi from Koala to ZB. It works when i use the pads or keyboard of ZB but not the pads of any auv3 apps hosted inside ZB. Koala, bleass, yonac, same stuff, unable to use the inside pad or original app keyboard app to record midi inside ZB cells. Not a big deal but just wonder why.

    Ohhh
    Similar to my dRambo problem
Yeah I don’t know it seems the auv3 needs a little work because I don’t have the problem in Cubasis ..in fact it’s making me use Cubasis again when I want to record my synth

Agreed. There’s lots I love about Zenbeats but it definitely needs improvement on how it handles AUV3 and automation. It’s a PITA having to do midi learn for whatever knob you want to automate. You can also draw automation in buts it’s not as quick and painless.

I’ve also been using C3 a lot more because of this. It just seems to be the more stable of the 2. I still get occasional weird bugs in ZB. I mostly just using it for the clip launching now. If C3 ever gets that, I will make it my only DAW.
