Bubble And Squeak

Many years ago I had a client in the UK. I would travel there frequently. Once she took me to a “typical” British pub and suggested I try something called Bubble And Squeak. Apparently, it’s the sound it makes as it’s cooking. I never heard it actually cooking, but this is what I imagined it sounded like. It was delicious.

Edit - I picked up Playbeat 3 a few months ago and this is my first outing with it. It’s pretty cool if you like that sort of thing.

Very nice production and texture to this. Not seen bubble and squeak on a pub menu for a very long time though! My mum used to make it occasionally - but never thought to listen to the sound it made whilst it was cooking!

That was about 25 years ago. It was a great day. I was staying at a hotel that was once a home of Henry VIII. She picked me up early in the morning and said she had a surprise for me. We drove for what felt like hours, out into the middle of nowhere. Then I saw it… Stonehenge! What an experience. I loved how the site was preserved by keeping the parking and gift store below grade. In the USA, there would have been a McDonalds and Holiday Inn. I still have my Stonehenge T-shirt and coffee mug. You can only get those at one place on Earth!

Then we drove to the Roman Baths. That was also amazing. After that we went to the pub. I think it might have been in Bath, or in the outskirts. I had my first taste of British beer there. Unlike here, it was not served so cold as to make your teeth crack. I was able to taste it. It was quite delicious and went perfectly with the lunch.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to visit the UK. Lovely country. Thanks for listening to my story and my song,

  • Funnily enough we’re more or less on bubble and squeak tomorrow night, basically potatoes and cabbage for anybody that doesn’t know. I might play this while we’re eating it 😊

Tonight we’re having leftover Chinese food with some hamburger and a fried egg on top. I actually like it… a lot!

  • I’m partial to to playbeat 3 tracks because they really make my drums actually good but the song is awesome
Great use of samples and effects, something I could learn from! You’ve said that to me. Now I see how effective it is for you

What do you produce again in man? Sorry I forgot

I like Cubasis. No particular reason other than it looks familiar to something I used in the desktop environment many years ago. I also use Audiobus 3 a lot. Ironically, this is the Audiobus Forum, but people rarely talk about it. Have fun making music. Keep those tracks coming!
