Apps like Teraverse?

I'm looking for simple UI synth apps that are mainly preset players with a few basic controls, ala Teraverse or the original Alchemy app.

OP-1F is inbound and I can't wait to pair it with the iPhone 15 Pro as a sample source. Especially as all I'll need is a single USB-C cable now, yay. Really want to keep the focus the OP-1F though, so not trying to get too deep into synth programming on the iPhone.

Ideas?

Comments

  • A couple that immediately come to mind: Overdrive Synth (OD-SY), the Triplex apps, any Mellotron app probably, the Waverley apps from Rob Jackson, Hillman, Euclid Synth, Menace, Nimbus/Plectrum, and especially SyndtSphere as it’s basically to Syndt what Teraverse is to Tera Pro.

You couldn't really get much more 'mostly a preset player' than Roli Noise. The IAPs are a bit of a rip off but you might have it already and forgotten about it. Some great sounds though. Would be a pity not to use it with an mpe controller though, the mpe aspect makes up for the lack of tweakability. Pianoteq is great as a quality bunch of presets, even in the free version, as long as you stay around the middle octaves you won't run into problems with those silent notes that are part of the demo version.

Any of those Audiokit romplers if you're not fussy about fx quality. The built in Audiokit fx are often pretty low quality.

  • Thanks peeps, good to have some more options to look into. I love how the playing surface in teraverse is front and center with just 4-5 controls to tweak.

The AudioKit apps are a good shout out too! I’d also add the Lo-Fi Piano and Sampler apps. Great preset playing AUs.

How’s Roli Noise these days? I deleted it to free up space because it was getting glitchy. Wish they’d update because it seems to be the cheapest way to get some of those SWAM sounds.

But those Swam sounds can't be used in the auv3. And the standalone app is next to useless. Roli Noise was working fine in aum last time I tried. There's a weird interface glitch. I think I remember that you need to do some workaround to get the preset selector to work properly, forget what it is, but it does work, unless it got broken with ios 17

The stock sounds are really great for the most part though, so maybe I’ll download it again and see how it works. I haven’t updated to 17 yet anyway.

Definitely all the Rob Jackson apps, moodunits, etc… I think they are all still $.99 each.

I would say KQ Dixie because of the hundreds of thousands of patches online, but the interface isn’t exactly simple.

All the synthmasters have lots of sounds, but they are IAPs.

OBXD has a lot of patches, some online

Tal u no lx has a lot of patches, more online

SoundFonts AU - with all the free SoundFonts you can find

SynthScaper LE which is very similar to how Teraverse is setup to be like Tera pro, SSLE is like a simple AU version of SynthScaper.

  • Thanks for the recommendations!

  • edited October 2023

Definitely, Definitely, SynthScaper LE it’s the same basic idea as Teraverse is to Tera pro, but from a different developer and app, Synthscaper.

This question made me realize how similar they are actually.

Yep. This, Teraverse, and SyndtSphere are all great and all kinda doing the same thing.

Audio Modeling forced that restriction. Same thing they did by making geoshred bass be only pizzicato (or was it the other way around? Can't remember. Basically, Audio Modeling have form when it comes to hobbling apps and trying to resell the same shit to people multiple times. I like the Swam stuff a lot, but some of their business decisions I have zero respect for.

The limiting performance of the geoswam bass really struck me as a bit of a low. I could kind of understand the restriction of Noise IAPs not working in the auv3, even though it was annoying, as the noise instruments were really extremely cheap. But the geoswam instruments are only a bit cheaper than the swam auv3s themselves are on iOS. And frankly that is fair anyway, because they are just iaps and ppl have already purchased the geoshred app so why would they pay the same for the geoswam versions as for the swam standalone apps. And the geoshred ones have less functionality than the standalone ones in general anyway. Yeah, this was a real dick move, imo
