How to have multiple instances of ChordJam on AUM each with a different MIDI channel out

Hello,

I want to have multiple instances of ChordJam on AUM and each instance sending MIDI out on a different channel, so then I can have multiple tracks in my computer DAW, each one with a different instrument loaded and receiving MIDI from one of those ChordJam channels.

I just can't figured it out. On my DAW I'm always getting MIDI from the iPad on channel 1 (or All). Should I configure the out channel on ChordJam? I don't see an option on ChordJam to explicitly change the MIDI channel out. Changing the "MIDI CC Channel" option just doesn't seem to have no effect. "Voice distribution" does change the channel out, but from my understanding, I don't think this option is what I want, this is just to send chord variations to different channels.

Or should the MIDI channel out be configured somehow on AUM?

I don't know if it matters, but I'm hooking my iPad to my computer through USB, using Inter-Device Audio + MIDI Support (IDAM).

Thanks very much for your support.
Cheers!

So I just took a look and it seems like you can set the midi channel in each instance of ChordJam. I took a screenshot to show you where, see below. Go to settings in upper right, then select OMNI and change to an individual channel. There’s that little tab to change from CC to output.

When sending midi on different channels, make sure that you are both sending on the channel/channels you want, and also receiving midi on that same Channel for your instrument.

Think of midi like a virtual communication, both sides send/receive must be configured to connect and communicate. one side sends it, one side receives, both must be set to the correct midi destination and channel.

Hopefully this helps. I don’t do a lot of desktop connections, but this should help.

  • It sounds like you also need to find out how to set the midi receiving channel on each instrument inside your desktop daw.

  • @Poppadocrock Thank you very much for your help. Although that doesn't solve it. As I said, changing the "MIDI CC Channel" from OMNI to whatever channel value just doesn't seem to have any effect. Whichever value I choose I'm always receiving MIDI on channel 1 on the DAW. Even using CHordjam standalone, changing from OMNI to whatever value, MIDI always gets to the DAW only on channel 1.
I'm beginning to think that this is not implemented.

  • I think you should try setting the output channel for each Chordjam instance using the voice distribution channel settings. If you want the full chord to go to your instrument, set all the voices to the channel your instrument is listening to.

So, Chordjam 1 to synth 1 on channel 1, all voices set to channel 1
Chordjam 2 to synth 2 on channel 2, all voices set to channel 2
Chordjam 3 to synth 3 on channel 3, all voices set to channel 3
    etc.

If you set all voices to the same channel, it works like a master output channel setting for that Chordjam instance.

  • If you can't set the output channel, then converting it is another way to go. mfxStrip is a handy utility for changing channel number. Send the output to mfxStrip and mfxStrip to the output.

  • Thank you all for your help.

@CracklePot Indeed the voice distribution channel settings seems like the only way to affect the MIDI channel. Although it seems like a nice feature, having different chord voices distributed to different channels, seems like an odd way of defining the master MIDI channel output. Anyway, I'll go with this approach.

@wim Thanks for the suggestion, seems like a nice suite of utilities.

    Cheers!

  • Were going to suggest Drambo in aum

But chordjam only recieves on midi ch 1 ( if set to 3 )

    Kb1 set to 3

    and filtering with aum.

It still only works with ch1, unfiltered.

Maybe midi tools can also do this? You might want to compare them. Nothing in Mozaic to do that Wim?

No need for mozaic. mfxStrip does the job without scripting.
The streambyter or mozaic scripts to change channels would be extremely simple, but why code when you don't have to? 😉

Ah, you see my thinking was that mfxstrip isn't free so maybe if someone already had Mozaic, there might be a script for that. Not that mfxstrip is expensive, 2.99 I think? Still...

    Cheers!

Yes but are you able to set up the synth you want to trigger inside your Daw to the corresponding midi channel.

Oh ok, nevermind, looks like you found some good info. Cheers!

Nothing against mfxStrip but I think Mozaic is $4.99, so for $2 more you get 500 additional midi fx plugins, or however many scripts are up on Patchstorage. Worth a thought…
