Does anyone know of a way to record internal audio from apps on the iPad to wav without using AUM etc,, I’d like to use voice memo but it only records the microphone. Thanks

  • Wavebox can ,I think, do what you want.

I want to record PureAcid directly.

  • Well, Wavebox can record internal audio - you set it recording in Record Internal mode and then navigate to whatever app you want, use it and when you’re done, return to Wavebox and stop recording, import it into the editor and there you have any internal audio recorded. Is that what you need?

  • Sounds like it does what I want. Thanks !

  • try this way to make a screen recording and then extract the audio. not sure if it has wav option but this can be more useful than sending video to Koala for example, as it seems not to have a size limit:

https://www.idownloadblog.com/2019/01/18/extract-audio-from-video-iphone-ipad-mac/#:~:text=Using an iOS shortcut&text=Here's how to change video, tap iDB Video To Audio.

  • I was thinking of that, but how to extract the audio from the movie ? iMovie ?

That shortcut will do that. Follow instructions in the link I sent - fast and easy

  • Thanks everyone! Super helpful people:)

  • Koala is great

    Ooh, never mind

  • @Antos3345 Actually, Dawnbeat (by the same developer as Wavebox) has this functionality too and the iap to unlock all functionality is free at the moment (at the time of writing) so that may be worth grabbing?

    Neon
    Koala
    Audiotweak
There are a lot of them, depends on how much control/editing you are looking for in an app.

The requirement is that the app can record the device’s internal audio.

  • Gonna echo the Wavebox recommendation. It’s a great app to have anyway.

Dawnbeat also does that if you’d rather have it in groovebox form.

My bad that’s what I get for skimming a question when short on time, lol. My mistake. Please Continue.

So some of these apps would work, especially in a host… like koala, neon, Wavebox, correct?

Not for apps that aren't IAA or AUv3 and can't be loaded in a host. Except for apparently Wavebox and Dawnbeats.

My understanding is that wavebox and dawnbeat essentially do a screenrecording without video.

Ah now that is hella useful

Yes, which is precisely what was required, hence why I suggested them in the first reply to the original question!

I think it would be great if iOS had some built in audio recorder, or an option for screen recording with just audio. I think it’s not very hard to implement. Anyway, with these above options, I got what I’m looking for.

Apple probably has contracts with music "manufacturers" that prevent them from providing such a feature.

Completely agree, it’s a weird omission on Apple’s part considering the Screen Broadcast method used by Wavebox/Dawnbeat seems to use built in system functionality anyway. I can’t see any reason why Voice Memo couldn’t offer the feature or why the screen recorder couldn’t have an ‘internal audio only’ mode in the first place?

Possibly, but wouldn’t they also have to block the same being possible on their devices via a third party app if that were the case - as far as I can see, Wavebox/Dawnbeat are just implementing something - Screen Broadcast - which any developer could if they wanted to?

  • You can screen record and then import the video and extract the audio with wavebox. Not sure in what audio quality Apple records.

Technically easy to do, but I think Apple ever since the first iPhone had privacy in mind, not allowing calls to be recorded being one of them.

No need to screen record and extract, Wavebox can natively record internal audio.

Yeah, I did wonder after writing that whether the privacy aspect of recording phone calls might actually be the reason. But then, if that were the case, surely recording of internal audio when making regular video screen recordings would also be blocked?

Whatever quality it is, I'm pretty sure it's very high, as the video quality is.

Haha that’s what I did. It’s sure the fastest way to get stuff done. I usually use the screen recording method for youtube clips, movie quotes, music, sound effects, and mostly for the Dented Audio app is like an awesome Drum wave shaper synthesizer but can’t export audio so the screen recording technique is the only way to get your synthesized drum samples. Then extract the audio from the screen recording. I’m sure Gavinski knows by now but Media Assisant can convert video to wav. Good Ol’ Screen Recording fixes everything and is convenient.

I happen to try the shortcut route recently. I was surprised to see that shortcuts had this feature right under our noses.
