A little more Kulning: Half Remembered Days Long Gone
“The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.” - L.P. Hartley, The Go Between
Feeling quietly, but somehow not unpleasantly melancholic this morning, a mood prompted by seeing a recent photo of my long ago ex, and how he has aged in the time since we parted, (as have I, of course), I found myself working with a sample of ‘Kulning’ - traditional Scandinavian cattle calling - I came across assembling my last piece, and the mood of the morning seemed to infuse the result somewhat.
Two Dexeds looped and messed with provide the backbone, Atom captured some BounceBud madness, a sprinkling of an additional Blocswave vocal sample and, that’s pretty much it. Recorded as usual live into AUM, the usual reverbs…
Be kind to yourselves.

I wish I had listened to this when it came out… and been kinder to myself. My bad.
It’s an exceptionally moving creation, I feel it.
Thank you, @McD. We could all use a little more kindness, I think.
Far shore, and seven scars ago.
I'm glad you made this Svetlovska, one of your best maybe, but I'm even gladder McD saved this thread from obscurity because it seems it had somehow escaped attention.
Ditto. It’s so easy to miss something when there’s a lot of activity on the forum and great pieces drop off the first page quickly.
This is definitely one of your best! I feel like I am listening to something that’s simultaneously old and new. I don’t know how old kulning is, but I feel like there’s something from antiquity here, but then it morphs into something that has a feel of modernity to it. Past and present. But I guess that was where the idea originated.
I’m probably rambling a little and should go to bed, but really glad I stayed up to listen to this.
I’ve just found this, and concur with what others have said. Very moving, and the theme of the back story resonates a lot with how I’m feeling today. Thank you for making and sharing this, and I’m glad I found it, even if I’m late to the party, as it were.
I don’t think you’ve produced a weak track for yonks, they just seem to get better and better.
Very powerful and great use of found sounds.
Who would have thought that L.P Hartley would have gone on to write that seminal guide to Fly Fishing ? 😊
@GeoTony : gosh, thank you! Blushing now… And - very droll Though I think J.R. Hartley might have something to say about it!
