Sebastian placed a "decently sized" five figure price tag on a long term solution:

How much would it cost to get a mobile midi standard setup and implemented? I'm all for supporting such a group but how would the initial investments from induviduals be worked out?
Sorry but here's the usual answer: it depends.
We could make MIDI routing an In-app purchase in Audiobus but that would limit the amount of users who have access to it and the market size quite significantly.
I'd rather make MIDI routing a free addition to the Audiobus app. That way it would partially drive sales of Audiobus, which would pay for continued support and it would instantaneously create a market for new standalone MIDI filter apps as mentioned above.
But for that we'd need to see that the community really wants this to happen, which would require not just a certain amount of money (I'd say at least a decently sized five figure amount because it'll be months of work + whatever the crowdfunding platform takes) but also a certain amount of users. The reason for that would be to indicate to third party developers that there actually is demand for a seamless MIDI implementation and standalone MIDI apps.
And then there's still the problem of Apple not really indicating where they want to go with IAA MIDI (if they even have plans for it). But I think with robust design of the protocol this can be solved. We've ported Audiobus to IAA, we probably can do the same thing with MIDI."
Cheers @philowerx.
2500 people dropping $20 would be $50,000. With 3000 uniques visiting here a day, that might be possible. I'm in. I'm in for $40 actually. Totally worth it.
I would be overjoyed if Audiobus would just incorporate a universal midi clock sync (send) in a format that all apps that receive sync can clock to (I believe there a couple of different types implemented in various apps so no consistency). Am not sure how easy or hard it would be for Audiobus to act as a universal midi master clock for apps with varied implementations of midi sync
Would be something I would definitely pay IAP for though I think as people realised what midi sync can do for their production ability, and as more laptop users migrate to iOS there will be increased market for Audiobus especially if it can become the only reliable hub to sync apps
Oh, please, please, please....
I'm in at any price ... well almost!
Please!
See Standardising BPM thread jan 13 2013 ,at that time I sensed in was close, based on Serbastian's comments but unfortunately it hasn't come to pass --however I'm getting real good at syncing apps in real time, Here's hoping

I hear you Will, but I just don't believe it would happen...unfortunately.
Two of the most lauded sites, that are praised daily as being immensely helpful to us iOS Musicians, recently reached out for a little help in maintaining that flow of resource using the Patreon service, and....
The SoundTestRoom got just 16 (sixteen) people. Discchord got 27.

I'm a backer of Tim on Patreon but those lets play videos are a different animal than MIDI Sync on iOS. While Tim's (and Doug's) videos are nice, broken sync is just a real pain in the rear which affects a lot of people.
It's a good point and you may very well be right. I'm not sure it's an apples to apples comparison though. Their videos are awesome but a) you get to watch them anyway even if you don't fund via patreon and b) they're not solving MIDI sync on iOS.
My hope is that the AB fellas or someone else will really go after it. If they need to fund it up front, they try it. If it doesn't meet the goal, well... that's that then.
@sebastian @syrupcore I agree, while those examples are a different animal/fruit, it has the core link of a call to response by our ios musician community.
However I would also love to see it happen and would find it very useful, so I'll pledge £30 upfront too.
I wonder if there is any will from midi.org to be involved in some way with standardising iOS midi.
