Fieldgazing

Fieldgaze is a nonsense word from Finnigan’s Wake. I came across it during my last attempt to read it. I thought it made for a good title.

Comments

  • Great title… probably a lot of title ideas in Finnigan’s Wake. Another collage of interesting musical sources.

  • I like the way it’s almost impossible to predict what’s going to come next in your creations. Great guitar stuff from about 3 minutes. 👌

  • Good arrangement. I like the transitions - they’re sometimes unexpected, but they work well.

I know it’s probably a little pedantic, but Finnegans Wake famously has no apostrophe in the title. Joyce never explained it, but no version has one.

I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. Oh well, I like it. Maybe if someone offers me some money to do something predictable… As I just told @McD, I won’t hold my breath. Thanks for listening.

Not pedantic at all. If you see him, tell him to fix that! Also, ask him what that silly book is all about. I’ve tried to read it several times. Now I just use it for song titles.

I have been thinking about reading it again, but will probably read Ulysses first in preparation. I guess it does have a story of sorts, but it kind of disintegrates towards the end.

First time I read it I persevered and came away with nothing. Second time I got that there is a story and that there is a lot of clever (but very dense) wordplay. If I read it again, I think it will be the last time.
