Power Adapter Suggestion

Hi,
I am looking for a power adapter that will support BOTH an iPad, and also supply a 5V for a Zoom U-44 audio interface. The iPad will be powered through my Uni (brand) USB hub.

I have a cheap one (an Amazon special) shown in the picture, but it's not working to power BOTH (the iPad and the Zoom)

I want a power adapter where I can run TWO USB PD cables out; one for the iPad and one for the Zoom.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???

(and no thank you - I don't want to power the iPad through the Zoom audio interface)

Thanks!!
AJ

  • I recommend as mentioned in another thread that you power the zoom via the usb cable rather than the separate 5V input. Pretty much any powered USB hub will have no trouble powering the Zoom.

The zoom doesn’t need any power other than what it’ll get from your usb hub.

  • Yes - I have tested it out, casualty - and using the 'official' Apple charger into my Uni USB hub - it will power both the Zoom and the iPad. I am just nervous about that for some reason. I can see myself at a live performance and suddenly my audio interface doesn't work. Maybe I'm wrong.

Doesn’t your hub have its own power supply?

If you have a separate bus for power then you would be looking at two potential points for failure. Not sure that there is any inherent issue with power over USB as long as the hub delivers enough current to meet the rating of the Zoom (and it’s highly unlikely that a powered hub would be that underpowered).

I am using my Apple charger, and USB PD cable to charge my Uni USB Hub; through the USB Hub both my Zoom Audio interface (through its USB connection to the hub), and my iPad, through it's USB connection to the hub - are being charged. So - that's how the Apple charger is charging both the Zoom Audio Interface and the iPad; through the Uni USB Hub

  • FWIW, Apple USB chargers don't tend to be heavyweight chargers. Did your USB hub not include a power supply?

No it did not include a A/C power adapter. It does come with a USB cable

Any power adapters that you recommend?

  • @Vmusic : The specs you linked to suggest a charger with at least 65 watts. What is the wattage of your Apple charger? (Most Apple chargers are on the minimal side…basically supplying just the power required to charge the device.

  • @espiegel123 The Apple charger is just 20 watts. WOW!!
