Atom Piano Roll 2 - editing while in scale and a couple of other questions.

@Gavinski and anyone else who might know...

Gavinski had a feature request a couple of years back. He asked to be able to transpose notes up and down while keeping them in the chosen scale. Did that ever get implemented?

Does anyone know if it's possible to set your own custom scale?

Is the manual freely available anywhere?

I don't think that ever got implemented, annoyingly, as it is such an obvious thing to want. I went through the release notes the other day and didn't see it there, but might have missed it. The manual is linked to in the app - in the top right menu section. You could ask the dev to implement it but if it hasn't been done by now I wouldn't hold my breath. A weird oversight in an app that generally pays so much attention to detail.

Unfortunately (in order): No, No, and "Sort-of"

The manual can be accessed in-app. There are links to a pdf version here: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/1205242/#Comment_1205242

There's also some documentation for the customization in the github repository, but there are no APIs available for scale customization or note manipulation.

Suggestion: simply run Atom2 through Rozeta Scaler with the same scale setting as Atom2 but with transpose on.

  • Thank you for the quick replies. I grabbed a pdf in the other post.

So transposing using the buttons won't keep the notes in scale. What about selecting and then manually dragging the notes - assuming that is possible. Will that keep them in the chosen scale?

    no.

  • Speaking of Atom 2, I wonder what @blueveek is up to these days.

  • Wondering the same thing, hope he jumps back on this beauty someday.

Went back to real life where programming actually puts bread on the table.

Yes but Rozeta Scaler has far far fewer scales than Atom2, unfortunately. What is the best option for an app that will quantize all midi to a scale but allow you to make a custom scale? Isn’t there a Mozaic script for that, I think?

I made a pretty good one, but it's lacking the one critical feature that Rozeta has and that is needed here: pre/post transpose in semitones. I didn't want to do that earlier when someone asked for it - because of the UI rethink needed, but the more I think about it the more inclined I am to do it.

AUM, Loopy Pro, Drambo and probably others can easily transpose the midi in semitones before or after it hits the script though.
