Koala multi-out in Drambo—how are you using it?
I’m trying Koala’s multi-out in Drambo, to use more complex FX, and have more control over them.
I’m trying out different setups, but I wonder how you all do it.
So far I’ve tried:
- Just sending Koala’s outputs to existing tracks, which is fine, uses up all 8 Drambo tracks (I know I can add more, but 8 works well with MIDI controllers).
- Adding sub-tracks to the main Koala track. Pros: easy to see where everything is; simple routing. cons: it's a bit messy as you can't collapse the sub-tracks.
How do you do it? Are there any neat tricks I'm missing?
Comments
Not with Koala specifically, but I normally use a "Layers mixer" module with multi-out Ruismaker, one layer for each output.
I like inserting Koala (or any other multi audio out app) on the Main track, then creating 8 dedicated new tracks just for it.
I’m leaning towards this, with Loopy Pro on the master channel for grabbing loops. But then again, this makes it hard to resample into Koala, which is something I do a lot.
Do you put anything before Koala on the Main track?
check out this great video
I normally don’t, but you can.
If you want to use Koala to sample stuff from Drambo, you’ll load it as an Audio Unit Processor, and insert it somewhere after all your stuff that you want to sample from.
That’s how I usually do it. I have Koala on track 7, so it’s easy to grab anything on tracks 1-6. I just wondered how you got stuff into Koala with it all the way over on the Main track, but it sounds like you don’t sample into Koala much.
Thanks, that’s a cool video. I’m not looking for help with getting Koala multi-out working. I just wonder how people are using it in Drambo. Maybe I should change the thread title.
I can afford to make additional tracks because I kind of stupidly bought an ipad just for sampling but now its probably just for dual mononokes ( so everything I own is plugged in ) for live jams but the mononokes can only pan when recieved ( dual ) not seperate and just sample on another ipad. Still to decide on this ( as to switch cables less )
If you can afford 16 tracks. Maybe 8 tracks to Loopy multi in to 8 multiout.
Koala input 1 as it defaults to output 1 because it isnt multi out until sampled )
The other 7 tracks access loopys to multiout fx.
But generally use flexi samplers on the 7 inputs to multiout fx also.
This way you got a loop system. A flexi sampler slicer system. A 1 shot koala. You can even put scanner sampler on the outputs.
Just started to see myself about options/routing though.
This is if you only use Koala to trigger pads though. Dont know about Koala sequencer to pads etc.
I’ve settled (for now) on putting a bunch of Track modules after an instance of Koala. It’s messy in terms of having more than 8 tracks, but it comes with one big advantage: you can record a stem from a track, which makes it much easier to export everything for editing in the daw later.
