There is another thread on this here - and someone there quoted Audio Modeling as saying they have no plans to port this to iOS. Maybe this thread and the other one could be merged @thesoundtestroom? Cheers!

  • Having just watched the video, still really looking forward to it but have to say I thought sounded a little less authentic than the solo instruments. And the piece of music at the end of the video is absolutely terrible lol. Some of the playing in it sounds extremely fake.

The pop demo? Ye gads, yeah, I know what you mean

Thanks for this, yeah I think it was the pop video, it had a beat of sorts…

I just listened to that… it is better but I’m still unsure… I think I need to take a break and listen again as I’ve lost a bit of perspective, played with a lot of strings stuff and listened today and it’s hard to judge after a while.

So this could be really wide of the mark, but I it feels a bit like a synth pad to me, something about some of the dynamics and the collective timbre. Too thick or something, lacking a bit of definition. I don’t know if modelling lends itself better to solo instruments, in as much as people often say they find swam stuff fake sounding before they realise they need to actually play it with feeling and vibrato when it comes alive. I wonder if that’s somehow less distinct when it’s diluted into a section.

This was my feeling, I think. But then I could be talking rubbish (likely).

  • Listened again. I think it’s the playing, I can hear him playing. It sounds like a persons hands on a keyboard not a string sections dynamics. In the subtler transitions it sounds nice.

Yeah... You need to be really really good to play these well if you want to imitate real instruments in a convincing way. Some of the playing in these videos really made them sound very fake. One reason why, personally, as someone who doesn't spend much time playing keyboard, I prefer using these Swam instruments for experimental stuff, adding fx etc. Would be nice to hear these played on a seaboard or some other mpe instruments. I always find it a bit strange that Audio Modeling don't seem to use mpe keyboards when demoing their stuff. Maybe doesn't matter much for the monophonic stuff but these string sections woud probably benefit from being played on an mpe keyboard by a skilled and tasteful player.

Yeah, I’m not a great musician at all but I think I have good touch so they really suit my style of playing. The first time I played the clarinet in noise with a roli block was pretty life changing for me haha. Love mpe. I just use velocity kb though - I don’t find it quite worth the price for an Eros or anything compared to using velocity kb—I hope a few more mpe controller apps come out with ways of simulating pressure (I find the y coordinate works well if you tilt the iPad).

There are those .. is it parisi who played the blocks stuff with swam really well on videos

If we don’t get this app I’m going to buy a laptop (wait… I have one around here already).

So, maybe Black Friday they will do a discount! Like 95% off? Never mind. $500… I’d have to start selling
some hardware or use all more Credit Card bonus dollars (again). Did you know you can pay your mortgage with a credit card and get a rebate? And you can get 0% credit cards if you pay off the principal. If I could get a supply of new cards every month I could buy a boatload of crypto and move to Maui.
