AudioThing Lines vs Igor’s NoInputMixer

These two seem, at a casual glance, to be similar. Any opinions as to which might be more useful, more accessible, even more musical? I want to try one of the two and need some help with an informed decision. TIA!

Lines is more interesting as an effect, NoInputMixer is more interesting as an instrument, would be my opinion. If I was only buying one it would be NoInputMixer, although I definitely like both.

  • Lines - Alien birds and howling feedback
NoInputMixer - chittering insects and howling feedback

I have both, they make unholy noises, but slightly different unholy noises

  • Yeah, the Lines birds are very very beautiful

  • Never thought I’d make a musical purchasing decision based upon birds vs insects, LOL. Time to spend some time watching videos, I guess. Thanks for the input; any additional welcomed.

  • I think that the big advantage Lines has is the automation and the big advantage NoInputMixer has is the sheer amount of feedback looping possibilities. They are both very cool. Sorry I couldn't help you make a decision!!!

Both are great but Lines is on an introductory price now. You have to get both but based on price I would go for Lines first

  • Man these are possibly my 2 favorite apps of the year so it’s a hard choice. If I HAD to chose, probably NoInput but both are amazing, especially for experimental music.

What are you looking for? Are you more after an effect or generator? If you’re looking for an effect, go with Lines. It can be an instrument as well but it shines as an fx processor.

More of an effect, I think. Going to give Lines a try. Thanks to all for the input.

I don't have Lines yet... but NoInputMixer is equally interesting used as an effect. AND it's native macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.

Using NoInPutMixer on the desktop as an effect in Logic Pro is great fun. :)

Still considering Lines, but from the demos I've seen so far... I'm not quite sold. Not that it isn't great, but that I think I already have that covered.

It’s certainly possible to do most of what Lines can do but I think it’s pretty unique as a whole (imo).
