Okay, I found a workaround (but read to the end):

    • after layer 1 recording, “save as…” my instrument to give a different name
    • record layer 2 with the new instrument name.
    • then “save as…” back again to original instrument name (overwriting #1)
    • Finally delete the #2 copy, making sure to opt for “‘DO NOT DELETE SAMPLES ATTACHED TO THE INSTRUMENT”
    • but all my samples have been deleted anyway => @VirSyn maybe you can reproduce this and fix the issue ? 🙏

    Sounds not that good...
    Will check this.

  • I must be missing something here because this sequence of events doesn't make sense to me: AudioLayer had the SFZ import option three years ago, and did not require an IAP as far as I know. Now it can import SF2 files with an IAP but not SF3. Is that correct?

    it seems so.

  • nobody else seems to notice, so🤷🏻‍♂️

I noticed but don't care. Developers need opportunities to monetize their work. Any of their work. If it results in a few overlaps and restarts, so be it, as far as I'm concerned.

Adding sf2 and sf3 with an IAP is totally fine with me. SFZ is a bit of a different beast since it's a text file based specification and was possibly a little easier to implement.

  • tell me someone else doing this?
ask for money a second time, for something you already sold?

It's not. SF2 and SF3 import are different than SFZ import. The IAP is for added capability.

SFZ import has not been taken away. It's still there even without the IAP - at least for existing owners. I can't say if it's that way for new purchasers, but even so that wouldn't be asking for money a second time if it's a new sale.

  • oh sorry, then its ok for sure.
    i get confused with sfz/sf2/sf3

It's totally fine with me and I'm good with paying for new features and improvements if the value lines up with the cost. I'm just trying to make sure I understand the features that are available, what it had before, and what it can do now, and what the app can't do, but might in the future, depending on demand and the developer's plans.

In this case, I bought the IAP for the SF2 import, and getting the additional features, free sound packs, and other stuff was well worth it for me.

  • There used to be two other in-app purchase options: higher polyphony and some sort of high-resolution synthesis engine. Does anyone know what happened to those two options?

  • The bi-directional instrument exchange with Xinematix is proving to be a power free capability for me.
Xinematix is built on the KARO Sampled instruments that are desktop quality in implementation and design.

With bi-directional transfer you can then adjust the ADSR envelope, add filtering or LFO modulation features and
re-purpose the instrument with fewer or additional layers of samples from other sources. When you have made your own
‘boutique” instrument you can send a copy back into Xinematix.

Currently, i packs in Xinematix are on sale until the end of the month.

I have no idea how Harry Gohs manages to maintain his catalog of products and participate in the on going bug fixing and
feature requests he has been entertaining on this thread and others. His productivity and quality of implementation is unparalleled:

    Tera Pro
    AudioLayer
    Xinematix
Bark Filter (the secret mastering “super app” with Tripleband preset and Limiter on)
    ReSlice
    Addictive Synth

(and 23 other apps that I also own).

I think you may be confusing that with bs-16i.

You are CORRECT! Confused, I am. bs-16i is my "other soundfont player."

SF3 is an enshitified 3rd-party derivation of SF2 with OGG compression of the samples - why would we even want this for production use?

🫡 100% respect for Harry's involvement, charging for the feature as an SF2 import is reasonable, so we can freely bother him about any possible bugs made in the process! ;)

  • I understand the soundfont situation a little better now, after doing a bit of reading. and I feel Audiolayer has the right priorities. SF2 and SFZ are well established formats, and SF3 is newer, but not really a "standard" although it does have the advantage of using compressed files, though it is lossy compression. Plus, with ESX support, that's a pretty wide range of formats covered.

  • ok, i deleted audiolayer completely and set everything up from zero.
my exported user library can't be imported (zip file) so everything is new now.

  • Purchased, super happy over this iap

    @VirSyn
Any chance of introducing select all/multi selection of folders/patches for bulk moving or deleting files?
If unintentionally I’ve imported an sf2 file with many patches to a wrong folder(it happened to me) it becomes a mess to delete/move patches between folders to re-arrange my instrument library.

@VirSyn just renaming folders would I believe be really helpful and FYI I created an older O1/W the other day which iirc created folder W inside folder O1. But moves as requested by @bargale would be even better!

Anyone else have the issue where every time there’s an app update all your downloaded sound packs are deleted? I’m turning off auto updates just because this is becoming such a pain. This is the only app I have that has this issue.

Is there anyway to stop this behavior @VirSyn ?
