OT//Gaming Any Star Citizen backers here?

I pledged like $60 about 10 years ago, bought a basic “Package” which included the multiplayer Star Citizen multiplayer game, and the single player “Squadron 42” when it comes out.

Years and years went by, and after loosely following it and playing some alpha builds here and there, I honestly kinda forgot about it and lost interest, as it seemed to be in a never ending development loop…

Then, today…

They blow whatever expectations I might have had completely to smithereens!

Wow! I am officially excited about a video game again!

I Held The Line!

  • Anyway, I thought it was exciting news…

For those not familiar, Star Citizen is HUGE (Squadron 42 is just part of it.)

I used to be a pretty hardcore gamer back in the day. FPS (first person shooters), Space/Flight sims/RPGs, and racing sims were all some of the genres of games I was into.

These days, I don’t play too many games very often, with work and other life responsibilities, not to mention my music studies, music production, and everything about music (which will always take priority over any of my free time and leisurely activities!), there’s seldom time for gaming!

But I do still love those PC games! At 54, (btw, today is my birthday!) I don’t consider myself “too old to be gaming” like my GF might have you believe, as my father who’s 83, is still a big PC gamer, and the one who actually gave me the heads up on this Star Citizen development milestone. We share a lot of the same interests in certain genres, (though he may be a little more into MS Flight Simulator than I am lol)

These days, the only game I’ve really kept up with when I have a little free time, is No Man’s Sky. The exploration and building aspects of it are therapeutic to me, and sometimes like just getting lost in it. No Man’s Sky is probably my all time favorite game ever, and there’s even synthesizers that can be built and sequenced in the game!

Anyway, back to Star Citizen: Squadron 42! (From the creator of Wing Commander)

It’s looking amazing! And it’s also looking like it might actually be finished soon and released within my lifetime! It’s hard to believe that it was over 10 years ago already, that I made that $60 pledge on that Kickstarter page, and now seeing that their funding has exceeded $500 Million, and all of the millions of backers all sharing in their excitement and enthusiasm.

They can take their time, really, honestly, they still have another 12-15 years before I retire, and then I’ll have some time to relax and actually play some of these games!

  • Happy birthday Edward 🎂🎁🎈
I’m afraid I lost interest in games after Space Invaders👾

    Thanks Tony!

Space Invaders? The original? A classic! Yeah that was one of my favorites. That and Missile Command.

  • And:

    Asteroids
    Star Castle
    Defender

(Thinking about the original arcade games)

  • I’m not a SC backer, but I was a huge fan of Chris's works from the '90s, mainly the Wing Commander series, especially Privateer. I deliberately skipped the SC Kickstarter because the game mechanics and MMO aspect didn’t catch my attention enough. I believe it's never too late to check the game once it's finished.😅

I’m posting here to wish you a happy birthday! 🍻🤗

  • Thank you @Luxthor 🙂

Yeah I’m not to big on the MMO aspect of it either. I too probably would have passed on it, if it weren’t for the Squadron 42 single player campaign side of it. I’m just happy to see it finally seem like it’s getting somewhere.

Knowing cig by now, don't expect anything at least until 2025.
As much as i liked tech they showed in citizencon, as a game dev, i think them saying we are in polishing phase could be a year at least. Also curious how will server meshing work eventually.
Hype is real again, but after 660 million dollars, and 10 years i am expecting allot from them at this point
Regarding Squadron 42 i just hope there won't be relying just on cut scenes since they hired so many famous actors, and at least 15 to 20 hours of gameplay. 40 would be amazing.

Oh yeah, I figured at least a year. Like you said, knowing CIG.

I was just thinking about the PC I’m going to have to build. I could probably “run it” with my aging 1070ti, but I’ll need to save up for something more current.
