And I just found this on the Vengeance YT channel! 😳

While it looks like a fun discontinued plugin, this actually shows how one of those "thick and heavy" kicks are built!

As a cheap start, I would “screen capture” some of that with the sounds you like and “import video” right into Koala and get to work using EQ and FX to perfect your own kit. It would be nice to have the income to buy the cool toys but that’s probably not in the cards for most here.

"Cool toys" and "expensive samples" aren't in the cards for me either. However, I have all the synths and effects and such that I need. I could form a kickdrum like this in AUM with FAC Drumkit and Sitala and Beef and other effects, then sample that directly into Koala. :) Gonna use Atom Piano Roll 2 to trigger the various instrument plugins as well. (I'm so glad I purchased Sitala. I knew it'd come in handy someday lol.)

  • I just re-visited Sitala and a kit I made by sampling drums from Gladstone in Gadget 2. That is a good tool to tweak kits… but it wouldn’t save without an error. I might need to re-install to fix it. Does it have a standard folder that I deleted?

the key to this sound is often a hot driven (mic preamp) mackie 8 bus.
for desktop there is a free airwindows mackie distortion, its pretty close.
    generally distortion and eq.

i struggled a long time with the "twisted record kick" ( hallucinogen/shpongle/ younger brother).
in the end its a sh101 filter resonance kick mixed with a acoustic one and the mackie overdrive.
