Best/most natural independent repitch and time stretch apps
As titled im looking for what might be the best way to change the pitch ofa sample or something without affecting time and vice versa, with it sounding as natural as possible, least artefacts etc.
I hope it’s ok that I’ve been posting a few threads. I’m rebuilding a music studio and getting back to music after a long hiatus. I’d love to record an album and start putting stuff out sometime so just catching up and filling in gaps in my knowledge

BeatMaker 3 is brilliant for this.
A couple of years ago, I posted some unlabeled examples and BeatMaker 3 was deemed the best. Koala was rated highly but it’s highest quality re-pitch mode is (I think but could be misremembering ) not playable from the keyboard. Zenbeats and Launchpad also rated highly.
A dev needs to start a gofundme to buy an Elastique license, like Reaper did. It's the only solution available.
Beathawk also is very good. But you can’t use it simply as an FX.
You must record your sample first and only then it can be repitched. But no artefact so far.
Koala is surprisingly close and is own-rolled.
PaulXStretch is the absolute best 👍
All this above, plus…
Vocal Tune Studio which is made for vocal but works with any audio
What are you planning to use it on? For vocals there are MusicPutty and Vocal Tune Studio. For samples in general PaulXStretch is probably the best.
I haven't tested in a couple of years, but last time I did, I found the ZTX algorithm (formerly DIRAC I believe) far and away the best, in conjunction with first upsampling to as high as possible (EG 192k, or even 384k) then stretch, and then after stretching downsample back to 44. Remarkably natural results came out (for all I know though my upsampling is irrelevant, but it made sense to me, and it did make for more transparent outcomes according to me, maybe a more knowledgeable engineer will chime in). An up to date shoot out could be in order though.
Here's someone elses test from 2019 https://www.admiralbumblebee.com/music/2019/01/06/ZTX-vs-Elastique.html
ZTX is licensed in Twisted Wave, and Motu Digital Performer, and is in Zynaptiq's own https://www.zynaptiq.com/timefactoryii/

I love that Koala can take a 1 bar sample (loop or one shot) and stretch it to 2,4,8… bars and keep pretty decent fidelity without changing keys (no pitch shift) or conversely adjust the pitch by frequency or +|- 12 semitones. Then re-sample with FX into another slot to start all over. STFU. For less than $10 with IAP’s? Insane. The dev @Marek1000 just keeps adding features and selling more copies. You can live in it and many are. They just don’t tend to hang out here.

_Multitrackstudio seems to use it
Beatmaker 3 is worthy of consideration as a sampler independently from its DAW capabilities. It doesn't bother me that it's not AUv3 because it can sample from AUv3's and IAA instruments simply and effectively, and it has outstanding sampler features - more than most people would ever need.
For sampling where time stretching is involved, it would be my first choice for sure. For time stretching of existing samples I think I'd just use Auditor. I'm not a fan of time stretching samples though. I can't help but hear the degradation and that bothers me too much. I'll use it for fixing small timing problems, but that's it.
I have to say that Loopy Pro is an exception. I find it does a great job for live playing where I'm not so tightly focused on the sound detail. For reasonable time shifts I don't really notice it a lot, perhaps because I'm more focused on playing. I do all I can to avoid adjusting tempo though.
Nice story! https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=7819
That is useful info, thanks
PaulXStretch is great but it's the total opposite of what the OP is looking for - he wants something that will sound natural when stretched, that's not what PaulXStretch does, and not what it intends to do. But yes, as it's great and free, anyone who doesn't have it should definitely grab it!
Lol I was gonna say PaulXStretch is one of my favorite apps but the exact opposite natural time stretching 😆
Yep. Thanks guys @HotStrange @Gavinski totally missed that natural part 😄 my brain is hard wired to immediately conjure up PaulXStretch when I think of stretching 😂
Haha no problem, it’s one of my favorite apps as well so I can’t blame you. Truly a work of art and absolutely crazy that it’s free.
