Gadget MIDI Clock Sync Problem
Hello all. Thanks to everyone for their help so far. I talked about this issue with ChrisG in a previous thread, but I thought I would ask if anyone could help.
There's a delay when recording audio from Gadget's sequencer into Cubasis. The transport start/stop syncs correctly, but there is a delay. I can tell when recording a 4 beat kick drum sequence. Is there a way to get the two apps to sync up correctly? Perhaps with a third party app like MIDI bridge? Does anybody have experience dealing with this problem? Thanks.

You're not wrong are you
Only suggestion. I have is Audiocopy paste from gadget to cubasis
Thanks for the advice.
Can you measure the delay and post the results? One way is to punch in at the left locator and then zoom in and measure the number of 1/64ths between the left locator and the start of the audio. You can then convert to milliseconds based on the tempo setting.
I tried this the other day and got 29ms at 128 BPM. Changing tempo indicated a reasonably fixed delay, rather than one that was obviously a function of tempo.
This was comparable to what I get with iMS-20 and iPoly6 (I mention this as they are also Korg, just in case there is any connection).
As for dealing with the problem, well as discussed on the thread where we talked about iMPC Pro, I just tried different apps until I found one I could work with reliably, that I could accommodate within my workflow. You do have the option of off-setting tracks to compensate. But given Cubasis current functionality it is a pain. For example, with my hardware / PC set-up I route MIDI from Cubase to drive my synths and run the audio through a mixer and back into the PC. I also use aux sends to hardware effects and bring them back in as well. Once you've measured the latency round the system you can set up track offsets to compensate.
You can't do this yet in Cubasis, so I was experimenting with slightly delaying individual MIDI parts etc. But it is no fun and I wasn't getting great results.
@xen Thanks for the detailed reply. I was wondering if it might be a problem with Cubasis. Have you had the same experience with other programs? Is there a better DAW out there that syncs better with MIDI?
I've stuck with Cubasis so far, so I haven't any experience with other DAWs. It could be that there is a better option. I was getting pretty irritated a few weeks ago as my attempts at syncing multiple apps was giving me all sorts of grief. I was expecting to be able to run four or five synths via IAA and sync a drum machine with no issues. I've sort of accepted that is pushing it a bit for the current state of things. I've got a decent workflow with iMPC pro and cubasis plus a synth or two and just bounce to audio or freeze tracks, working on building patterns and layers. If I want to use gadget I import loops now.
I'm sure as the platform continues to develop, sync options will improve. Is it a problem with Cubasis? Possibly, but probably not entirely. I'm no dev, but what from what people have been saying it seems MIDI is still a bit of a pain to implement smoothly.
I tried using Gadget inside Auria via IAA in Aurias channel strips earlier today. And while it was tighter synced then when using random midi clock sync outside the IAA environment, Gadget was still drifting off almost immediately. Auria do have a record latency adjustment setting, but I couldn't be bothered messing around with Gadget and sync anymore. It's apparent that it absolutely needs some work to be usable. Another thing is that Gadget won't keep track of things like song pointer position and so on, so when pressing stop in the host and then play to resume, Gadget will start from the beginning again. Which makes it a bit hard to use as a plugin inside a host.
Anyway, I'll just continue to use Gadget as a standalone thing, and hope Korg cleans up the glaring midi sync issues. Adding things like keeping track of the song position inside the host would be a pretty great bonus though, since Gadget would make for a neat "little" audio unit/plugin with all its gadgets.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't know MIDI sync was going to be an issue with Korg apps. Korg apps are great apps however. That's too bad with Auria because I've read it's a great DAW.
Maybe a third party app like MIDI Bridge could help? I read that it is difficult to use. I'm fairly tech savvy but I'm not into programming. Are there any MIDI GURUs on this forum that could help?
@Buska here on the forum already tried both midi bridge and midibus, and neither helped.
I'm sending an email to Korg support to see if I can get an answer. If you want you can send an email to Korg too. There's strength in numbers! It would be great if we could get a resolution to this problem.

No reply from Korg yet. I've never tried to contact their support before. Are they usually this slow to reply? I sent an email to their main support address.
I found exactly the same problem with gadget and bm2 so e time ago. I don't think they've addressed it in the latest update.
