App for polyrhythms.
Hey folks, I love Patterning but you can't use in AUM. What apps are you folk using for hypnotic rhythms? Thanks folks!
Comments
Euclidean by 4pockets - look out for the link in the manual to the long paper by @dcollett on polymeter, polyrhythm and polytempo too, really excellent
I was able to route it into Cubasis. In AUM I loaded Patterning as IAA, then selected Main Output. I suppose you could select individual tracks if you want. In the bottom I selected IAA/AB Output 1. Then in Cubasis I created a new audio track and routed it to Kymatica Output 1. I didn’t go much further than that, but I was able to record a few bars just to confirm it worked. I’m not sure if that fits your workflow, but I thought I would offer it as a possible workaround.
I haven’t looked at Patterning for a few years. I think I’ll play with it for a while! Thanks for jogging my memory. Have a good one!
Maybe- Polybud
https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/polybud-polyrhythmic-sequencer/id1624211288
Hammerhead also does any rhythm setup you need.
Drambo
Drambo can have different meters on each track.
If you need to fine-tune track speeds, you can do so by using the new sequencer module and scaling the time signal that controls it (in case you have very odd meters and expect each to re-sync on the 1.
poly2
I really do need to sit down and try to figure out Drambo.
Also, + 1 for Euclidean, Polybud. Have a look at Polyphase too - not sure if that will do what you want exactly but very cool sequencer I seem to remember..
Strokes is the deepest and most fun. For easiest and most immediate, I use Rozeta Rhythm.
It works in AUM just fine. Both as IAA and forwarding midi to drums inside AUM.
EG Pulse and DrumComputer both can as well.
Also Octachron and Polybeat
Beat Scholar
Poly 2
+1 for Poly2.
It’s usable as either an instrument itself (you can load samples into it, and I comes with a bunch), or use it as a MIDI generator. Either way, you can set probabilities etc so it has generative functions if you want them.
🤦🏻♂️ can’t believe I forgot that one
I really need to invest for time into Poly2. I bought the IAP a long time ago and got really into it briefly and then didn’t dig any deeper.
Poly 2 is mind-bendingly deep in what it can create…it is worth reading the short manual . While it is not complicated, there are things one might not figure out without a little reading.
Polyphase. Lots of bells and whistles and very powerful:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/polyphase/id1440617668
are those apps mentioned can do both
1, play say 1-9 number of evenly distributed beats over a whatever bar/measure
2, sequence any beats to play/skip
For instance, you cannot do 5 evenly divided beats over 1/1 or 4/4 on Beat Scholar as the lowest division bar is 1/2
Just to add for completeness , DigiStix 2 has a polyrhythm feature. It’s easily overlooked. It’s covered quite well in one of Paul’s YouTube videos at Paul the Musicman. You can change the setting per kit piece/pad - Pattern Only (standard), Polyrhythm, or Polyrhythm + Snap, so it's highly flexible.
Actually Drambo can do it. But thanks for your suggestion. Your screen capture looks really great.
Is that you meant this apps can be sequenced on grid, off grid(polyrhythm) and real-time playing(but always quantized?)
I can't access the manual as 4pockets.com is down. But I'm shocked this drum app has 64 steps, 64 pads abd 64 channel Mixer?! Seems I can even remap it as a 64 key sequencer?!
@jklovemusic - Sure thing. I figured someone else might have the same question and this could be an option. Not sure if I understand your question. It can record into the grid (Pattern only), but you can also program it using the Pattern, Polyrhythm or Polyrhythm+Snap modes. It has a 64 step sequencer, 64 pads (16 x 4 banks). It's typical of Paul's design - features galore.
I can get whatever beat divisioin from Drambo. Can I sequence which Polyrhythm beat to play/skip on Drambo?
Now I print the midi to GR2 clip then remove the beats I don't need.
That's probably easier done with multiple Sequencer modules so you have full control over the timing and position of each (by using and manipulating the time signal).
Poly bud
Steppoly Arp
Rozeta Rhytm
Playbeat
Actually there’s a decent amount out there.
Holy crap. How do I not know this… thanks.
I am trying to feed Drambo Euclidean sequencer beats to Drambo default sequencer, I have switched off quantization on the clock and piano roll but the recording always get some syncopation instead of the evenly distributed beats out of Euclidean. I have tried recording with different numbers of step but no luck. What could be the problem? Thanks.
I checked Rozeta can do what I need and what I got from Drambo, at least the drum machine has the option loop sync which will evenly distribute any number steps to fill the master clock time signature.
For now I'm recording the midi from Euclidean sequencer to linear timeline piano style sequencer. I guess if I rephrase my request. It should be I want to step sequence true poly polyrhythm patterns
May I borrow your knowledge to narrow down the apps that can sequence on any step and with rich parameters adjustment, ideally be polyphony and have some clip/pattern management or even song mode?
Edit: I know Drambo can...
Not sure what exactly you've tried, what I mean is something like:
SAW Up LFO synced to bar => Graphic Shaper for tweaking the timing curve => Scaling => Sequencer module.
A straight line in Graphic Shaper will give you a straight/linear sequencer.
You could also define different "groove templates" to switch between different Graphic Shaper curves on the fly.
Just noticed I didn’t say thanks and rushed to try your guide on Drambo. Thanks!
@wim can Octathron do the same? I didn’t see the setting to do so
