Orion (Metallica Cover) - includes Phase84, Pure Acid, Redshrike, and more!

I originally covered this last August, but redid it earlier this year. The bass was done in Phase 84, drums were done with GarageBand IOS touch instrument in real time (kick, snare, and tom in one take, hats in another, cymbal crashes as an overdub)...Pure Acid is also on this track,as is Mood, LaGrange, Redshrike (the part that sounds a BIT like a guitar, played in Unison with Mood), LaPlace, and Flowtones

This is a good example of how I layer different AU synths to make a dense yet atmospheric track

  • Nice! Orion is probably my favorite Metallica instrumental with The call of ktulu being a close second. I love the early Metallica instrumental’s!

Me too! Those were the songs that turned me into a Metallica fan, actually. Such a GREAT band, especially live

  • Wow, a lot of complex timing on that one. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to pull that together. 👊🏻

    (You misspelled Ulrich 🙃)

    LOL I'll fix that!

Thank you...I had the arrangement in my head prior to do it ; the drumming was the hard part...I record in 16-32 bar increments in GarageBand... I did the kick drums and toms first, and admittedly I had to quantize it a bit (1/16 swing) Then I added the hats and cymbals. Bass came next. I cloned the part and copy/pasted the line into Pure Acid. There's a bug where if you do that, Pure Acid will add itself throughout the entire song....to fix it, you have to convert it into an audio file, then cut and delete the extraneous sections.

I realize I kinda screwed up on one part...the "guitar" part I did was slightly out of tune because the patches I made kind of "clashed" a bit, specifically on the LaPlace part of it!

My favorite part is from the 4 minute mark onwards...I really like how Phase 84 came out on it ^_^
