Thought Experiment/Speed of stroke CC mapping/MPE
Is this a thing in any apps? I was using a drawing app and they commonly make the speed of your stroke correlate to the thickness of the line drawn. I was wondering if the same is the case for triggering au parameters or something in controllers. I know velocity kb has y distance but I’ve never been sure of the difference between that and y coordinate… I mean, I’m assuming y coordinate is where you are on the vertical axis, and distance I suppose would be how far you move your finger along that axis relative to its starting position? But that’s not how fast you do it.
Speed of stroke, plus y distance, plus y coordinate would make for some pretty amazing expressive combinations with cross interference and one exacerbating the other … in fact… uh sorry thinking allowed, is one parameter able to not only modify a cc, but modify anither parameter that is modifying a cc and back and forth creating larger chains, uh, with multiplication or other operators rather than addition. I’m really trying to articulate something I’m not hugely familiar with but the kind of non-discrete interaction of parameters that creates very organic and dynamic timbral playing. This would be a little like a thread I started a while ago about a controller app affecting instruments in much more organic ways than currently.
There is also Kraken. Which is amazing looking but I’ve got so accustomed to velocity kb I haven’t guven it a good look. I really should.
Edit: it reminds me a little of generative stuff I think, and I wonder if a generative framework could be applied to effects and modulation for playing an instrument rather than passive generative music. It would be half generative and half input… or is this just modelled instruments… but applied to effects. Uh.

FWIW, Pen2Bow came to mind as I read the above
