Beautiful, yes. Unusual, not really (unless one isn't used to Eastern art and music). Amazing, awe inspiring, phenomenal, HELL YES! ❤️

We have a few regional experts on the forum. I’d love to read the critical response from @Gavinski since I think he lives in China. The music uses a lot of traditional instruments from the composition has a lot of western influences in the harmony and melodic content. It’s a bit of a pastiche of a chinese style as filtered through western symphonic trends.

As for the stage performance, only the French Canadian groups of Cirque Du Soleil come close to this level of coordinated dance mixed with athleticism. For my money that 3rd dancer on the left in the second row was the star if I have to choose one.

Getting input from @Jankum who lives in Japan and has lived in Thailand might mhave insights into the cultural details that are clearly chinese in nature. There are aspects of gender that shine through but I’ll leave that to the experts if there are any willing to venture onto that thin ice.

I was able to visit parts of Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket) in my life and I loved the Buddhist manners that I encountered in the average person I met. The cuisine was just amazing. That’s where I found the most authentic Gamelan musical experiences. It’s a truly magical sounding ensemble.
