iOS groveboxes with MIDI in/out sync?

edited November 2023 in General App Discussion

Which iOS groveboxes/drummachines have ability to send or receive MIDI sync so can be synced with hardware? I guess AUM can only send MIDI clock out?

Fwiw, there are utilities that can sync midi clock to Ableton link. So, if something can sync with Ableton link, you can drive it from an external midi clock.

  • Drambo, BAM and AudioBus 3 can all send and receive MIDI clock. AudioBus 3 can be used as a good MIDI clock / Ableton Link relay.

For me, Groove Rider 16 is the best groove box on iOS. It’s the closest thing to a hardware groovebox I’ve seen. It can send and receive midi. It’s not an AU host, it is both stand-alone and AU so you can put it in AUM. It also has multi-out. I often use it as my drum machine, I’ve performed live on it a few times and it’s rock solid.

I sync it with my korg Minilogue XD sequencer as an AU in AUM.

BAM looks promising. I participated in the beta, but it’s still too new for me to have a strong opinion about it. I love the Imaginando team. They put out quality apps.

Thank you all for the info. I do have Drambo, though use it rarely, especially in live jamming with friends - looks rather complicated for the purpose but I guess I'll have to dive into.
