Having a real problem resizing audio clips in 4Pockets MultiTrack

Sometimes I am there for ages stroking away - nothing. Then occasionally the whole audio clip will move down the timeline 😫 what am I doing wrong? Sometimes I will surprise myself……. but then it’s gone.

I own it but haven’t really used it much but I will say Doug’s video on the app is very extensive. Maybe the answer lies there.

  • Doug didn’t mention it that I saw. Paul spoke about it on his video ‘altering the crop points’ but doesn’t show how to do it. All I do is move the clip along and back on the timeline.

Select the track you want to resize. Hold the little rectangle at the bottom and drag it. Works every time for me. Dragging the top rectangles lets you make a fade-in or a fade-out. Pulling the top middle rectangle down changes the volume. Dragging inside the track (hold for a second until all rectangles disappear) moves it around.

It’s the rectangle at the bottom! Talk about hiding in plain sight! Or maybe it’s just me that’s a bit of a dipstick - I’ll have to watch last nights episode of Ancient Aliens again now to see what I missed….. I’ll enjoy it more this time now though - thank you.

  • Just in case anyone else is contemplating this with half an interest. I was messing about with it in AUM last night and only just discovered that you can loop a section in the Multitrack even when synced to a host (AUM) which I had previously thought you couldn’t. I say this because this strikes me as being super useful indeed - I can see me using this extensively now I know it’s potential and how to use it properly 🥳

So basically using it as a looper?

Paul from 4Pockets has some really good videos showing the functions of MultiTrack. Well worth watching.

Yes a bit like a looper. I like the fact that it’s all self contained within AUM. You can record straight into it, loop a section that you like, then get back to the jam - do the same again when you get a bit you like, record it in & chop it / maybe add a volume ramp etc, all in time with Link + it’s an AU so you can have several on the go.

Yeah it definitely adds another great layer to AUM jams. I’m glad we have it available :)

If I recall, you also have Loopy Pro. It works well for this sort of workflow either as an AU in AUM or in parallel via link. Or strictly standalone if not using multi-in/out AU or sidechaining.

Thanks, yes I had already given that some thought and had a try out with it. I had preferred Multi Track initially mainly due to the volume/ fade automation (the micro fade in Loopy Pro didn’t seem to be responding too well) and the ability to edit - cut and shunt bits of the audio etc and also having the Audio Pool just above.
Having said that Loopy Pro has a more solid feel to it and what it lacks in editing seems to be compensated by its ease of use - it’s definitely far less fiddly to work with than the Multi Track. I brought Cubasis into the equation for this reason because it’s import/export and editing I seem to manage fairly rapidly to move it in and out of LP. As it turns out I also found myself spending more time in Cubasis than I originally intended. You can really nip around with things in there when you get used to it.
    Cheers

  • @robosardine : in the sequencer , you can do most of the trimming/copying as you can in multi track. Btw, micro fades are just there for click elimination. You can set fades much longer than that though you can’t easily automate volume changes without some hackiness (like setting up widgets that apply fades and volume changes or midi mapping clip parameter and using a sequencer—that will eventually change with integrated automation (no idea on the timeline for that).

  • OK thanks - got you. One of the main things though was to cut bits out of the middle of audio clips, then join the remaining parts together. A bit like the Cut Ripple in Audio Evolution Mobile. Now if that that ever gets added to Loopy Pro it will be a great day indeed 🤗
…………. waits and hopes for a reply saying ‘You can do that in Loopy Pro!’ 🫣

You can do that. Add an event to the timeline. Shorten it to end where you want. Add another event and shorten it from the beginning. Move the second to be next to the first.

  • It isn’t quite as convenient as a true ripple edit, but I find it to be pretty quick.

😀 Thanks - I had a go at that. I am using fairly lengthy sections so it feels a bit of a fumble at times - I also miss not being able to move parts up and down to adjacent tracks, so I’m not feeling at home with this way. It’s a good shout though.

  • I need to use both Loopy Pro and MTR more for things like this. I rarely use LP inside of a host and usually have it has the host itself, but it seems great. Gonna give this a shot tonight.
