Breaking News.. IK Multimedia.. 180-Day Download Rule Lifted!
Breaking News... Hell Freezes Over! Pigs Fly! Blood Comes Out Of Stone!
I believe this only applies to desktop products, but...
IK used to have this stupid rule that if you bought a product you only had 180 days to download the sound content, otherwise you'd have to pay a FEE to "reactivate" the ability to download your sounds for another 180 days. It appears they finally realized how wildly customer unfriendly such a policy is, so now you can download your sound files without restrictions, as needed.

THANK YOU IK!
Now, if Waves would only stop WUPping its customers upside the head.. And Apple would bring back the headphone jack...

That is good news! I hope it works retrospectively for sound downloads that already expired!
Hell freezes over indeed! They doggedly stuck to this for at least a decade while letting customers walk away.
I gave up on them years ago when they expected me to pay again for a new download when moving to a new device.
Wow, that was the main reason I basically boycotted Ik and refused to buy anything else from them ever.
Was why I turned my nose up at Mixbox (and honestly have been getting along just fine without it!)
Hmm let me go take a look at my “user area” now… if they’ve come around and fixed their policies, they might have a chance to redeem themselves. It’s about time!
They make some really spectacular products. I especially love Modo Bass, Syntronik, Hammond B3, Tonex, and Amplitube… They also have frequent sales, group buys, crossgrade/upgrade deals, Jam Points… This was basically the main fly in the ointment.
It does.
I just hope this isn't the precursor to a subscription package from IKM, prepping the server side for individual downloads. They're already dipping their toes with Pianoverse and making IK product manager need to phone home every couple of days for the sub to remain active.
TBH with a catalogue as big as theirs is kind of makes sense rather than their usual race to the bottom with TSM often available for $199 which they then try and claw back by making their upgrades expensive. New customers always win with IKM. They never let you use JamPoints on anything not already overpriced (I've Never used a single point, have about 100 in my account).
Great! Managed to finally download the sounds for Sample Tank 4 CS and Syntronik 2 CS that I was missing!
Heck yeah, that was one of the worst policies ever. I’m glad they came around
Rumor has it that the next generation iPad Pros will have a headphone jack available on a subscription basis.
😂🤣
And if you stop paying it becomes an RS-232C port.
Quip of the year!
I messaged IK about the the download charges a while back and asked them why would they give buying customers such an obvious a reason to dislike them. It made NO sense. Very glad they have dropped that nastiness.
Sampletron is one of my all time favorite iOS apps. I’m a big fan of Syntronik, ToneX, and MixBox as well (though I only have the free one right now, I hope it goes on sale soon!). Would love to see Modo Bass and one of their drum plugs come to iOS eventually. And an update to Sampletank.
Do you have their organ? I use the GSI app (VB3) and I LOVE it! But I admit the IK one sounds fantastic.
Congrats to ik for deigning to stop taking people’s money for nothing. Incredible ethical achievement. Nobel prize? Not even sure of the legitimacy of that as it is effectively theft, whether or not it is legally. I expect they had lawyers on it.
I like the look of Modo bass, drums sounded ok too, get them on iOS,
Had to deal with an ik guy on here. Was rude, defensive, disrespectful to paying customers and generally behaved with all the grace of a mobile phone salesman. Also their hardware is lol.
No idea if they still act like that but they were an embarrassment in their attitude toward customers, product quality previously. Hope they’ve sorted themselves out. Lot of peopel with similar experiences.
