Tera pro crashes

Well oh well, jumped on the hype train and bought tera pro. A couple of days ago all instances crashed inside AUM as soon as I added an extra tera pro as AU. Tonight I’m using it in Cubasis as my main synth, and two hours in all instances crash and the sound is gone from all the Tera pro synths. I closed cubasis and put my ipad aside. I’m done for tonight, and might contact the app makers tomorrow. I’m not sure there’s anything they can help with other than asking me to update to the latest ios..

  • How many instances of Tera Pro did you manage to load before the instance that crashed it? What type of iPad/iPhone are you using? Might be due to limitations with the processor of your device.

@jwmmakerofmusic and @tja only 3 instances. A bass patch ,a sub, and basic pads patch. I have an Air 3. My previous project had over 30 midi and audio tracks with maybe 5 Twin 3 . Honestly, there is no point to using it if I’m going to use only one instance of it.

  • I currently have 3 instances of it in GarageBand on my iPhone and it’s fine (knock on wood)

You mean "scrape on wood". 😜😂

From my understanding, Twin 3 is less resource-heavy than Tera Pro. Not sure how powerful the iPad Air 3's processor is compared to the Air 5's (someone with more technical knowledge can possibly chime in), but I don't think you'll be able to run more than three instances of Tera Pro.

What genre(s) are you looking to produce with Tera Pro? :)

I understand. You’re most probably right. However, all instances crashing is new to me. Usually I start getting crackling sounds when my Ipad can’t handle the performance anymore, and I usually freeze tracks when that happens.

I guess I could label what I started yesterday as Dub techno. What’s the best use for Tera pro in your opinion? For Bass? Pads?

It is good for anything. But, since it is a little CPU hungry, I wouldn't use it for sounds easily done with a lightweight synth.

Have you powercycled (fully powered down) the iPad and rebooted?

The dev is very active and responsive so I’d definitely recommend reaching out if it’s something you’re encountering consistently. It is a pretty resource hungry synth and the iPad you’re using is half a decade old or more at this point right?

There are lots of factors, so if you do report I’d recommend telling the dev exactly what happened that way if it is an actual issue with the app they can properly address it. Some older iPads are just not capable of running multiple instances of some of these newer more powerful apps.

If an AUv3 plugin experiences a fatal error, like a bad address, or an abort() call, the plugin will crash. Since there's only one copy of the plugin code, that will take down all the instances. And when adding a new instance fails because its data exceeds the total memory limit for the AUv3, the system will kill it, destroying all instances. It's not possible for an AUv3 to ask "will this work?" before attempting to allocate memory.
