  • Great riff ! Deep Purple could learn a thing or two listening to this one !

  • You’re getting back into the groove of creating regularly. I hope your hands are behaving and not giving your grief.
It sounds like your chops are getting close to where you were last year physically. Musically, I personally like hearing
jazz styles that are accessible by non-musicians and this strikes the right balance to NOT get fired from a piano bar gig for being too avante garde. But I suspect you’ll get back to being more adventurous if you get bored. This one had a pretty strict tempo and I know you’d never play to a click so that’s also a good sign of your chops coming along.

  • Another killer Jazz improv mate. :) I knew I'd enjoy it.

Hey! The master is back :) Good to hear. In every sense :) Cool riff, too. And leaning into the dissonance. As Adam Neely would say: spicy!

For creating in the moment, it’s hard to imagine how @LinearLineman pulls these pieces out of thin air. He doesn’t compose them in the classic sense or being able to repeat the performance on demand. No. He makes the piece and promptly moves to clear his mind and make yet another one. It just humbles me but it’s a product of a lifetime of playing and seeking a way out of being bored at the keyboard. It’s so Zen… it’s impressive.

If you ask him how he does it, he’ll get pretty mystical and say something like “I don’t do it. It does me.” Yeah… that kind of Zen. Zen that doesn’t know how to do something but stays open to the actual doing without a thought for how.

  • Start off like a variation a Smoke on the Watery theme and evolves nicely with some amazing playing and some lovely full, yet unusual, chords. Several re-visits to the opening theme to give consistency and overall very enjoyable!

  • Your playing seems to have a different vibe on your latest improvs (this one and Colorado), and I'm digging it. Whatever you're on, keep on taking it! (Can I have some?)

  • Great to hear you back to the piano pieces. Nicely walking the line between jazz and blues.

  • Is the ‘B word’ allowed here? I mean the Blues 😄
    Cool 😎

Hey, @Svetlovska and I got away with it (although she described our effort as someone with brain damage trying to recall the blues  ), so everyone else should be able to.

  • Thx @JanKun hope all is well. Can you illustrate the Deep Purple reference?

@McD the Novus is a dream to play. Far smoother than the Kawai ES8 that served me so well. My skills seem to be in a similar place to before the Great Hiatus. It is a mystical experience as in it’s mysterious. This stretch is basically a blues piece. I kept that in mind so not very mysterious. It remains to be seen if I can plug into the cosmic outlet again and create pieces like Antarctica where I don’t know wtf is happening . For now it’s cozy piano music and maybe some horn lines.

Thx @jwmmakerofmusic, it feels good. @Svetlovska yeah, always like me some dissonance… except for those notes I edit out.

Thx for the cogent comment @AlterEgo_UK. Like I told @McD i wasn’t relying on the muse so much as all the blues I’ve heard over 60 yrs.

@pbelgium the secret ingredient is sometimes sone delta10 in a gummy (lol, I now take just a quarter of one which does the trick) I’ve been taking time to revisit my 70s roots. Still looking for the groove I never quite got.

@cem_olcay so nice to hear from you. Been thinking about Istanbul and all the climate events you’ve been experiencing. As to the B word. I figured if Miles could get away with Bitch’s Brew I could follow in his footsteps. Thanks for listening and keep up the great deving!

  • Monday is better with a fresh @LinearLineman track!

  • Haha, thx for that @GovernorSilver. Much appreciated.

  • So is Thursday ! great work Mike !
Saw Stanley Clarke a few years ago and one of the lads I was with was convinced that when SC played School Days he was actually playing Smoke on the Water 🤨

  • Thx @GeoTony Hope you’re having fun.
