Stomp box idea: Is there an app that allows to define a single full screenwidth / height touch area?

I own an Ortega Horse Kick Pro stomp box: https://ortegaguitars.com/en/products/horsekickpro-m10817.html.

Now I have an idea of an even simpler stomp box solution that I kinda always carry around in my pocket - my iPhone!

So: Is there an app that allows to define a single full screenwidth / height touch area? One could then trigger a sample (kick drum or similar), place the smartphone on the ground and tap on its screen with the foot! Simply connect it by AUX to a speaker and you have a powerful, configurable stomp box that is very easy on your foot muscles! 🤔

I used to play around with Mozaic, and I know that there I can define custom touch areas. But I don't remember whether it would allow to create a single touch area as described above. Any other ideas? Or maybe it's simply time to create such an app? 🙂

    Here are a few options:

The thing I would worry about is tapping the screen with the foot. Unless you’re tapping with a bare foot, you will need some sort of material that will even enable you to touch it. Besides that a phone (screen) isn’t made for that specific purpose, I would worry about damaging it. With that said, you could try Wim’s suggestions.

When it comes to percussion sounds, there’s also Impaktor from Beepstreet. That’s not what you’re asking for and on a stage not handy, for home use it could be an option to trigger a percussion sound by tapping the foot next to your phone.

Although to my knowledge not possible, the following could be another suggestion: within Apple’s own Shortcuts app or accessibility settings (not sure which one), you are able to configure tap signals from the back of the phone. With that in mind, it seems technically possible to trigger a sample with that function. But I don’t know, maybe that’s not even an option for developers and maybe it only recognizes double taps and that i.m.o. would cancel out the triggering of a sample. If so, then after loading an app, you could place the phone face down and tap the back/case of the phone with your foot to trigger a sample or activate a function.

  • I forgot to mention about the need for bare feet.

  • Thank you for your comments. I will check these options out and give feedback, whether it works for me. 🙂

  • Before you tap dance on your iPhone, check out this app. The iPhone is attached to your knee, free trial version.
