analogue to MIDI conversion (eg iRig ⚡🎸 guitar) into iPad

Dear all,

I had an app a few yrs ago (when I had an iRig) which took my bass guitar (analog) input and used tracking to cover onto midi sounds.

(Can't rmbr name unfort).

Not bad, but laggy at the time due to high CPU processing req)

Anyone know if we're any better these days with M1 / M2 ?

kind regards
.

MIDI Guitar 2 seems to be generally considered the best based on forum comments. It's free to try. I'm not sure how well it'll do with bass though.

Lag is always going to be there to some extent. Pitch detection is impossible without some lag no matter how high the processing power. The sound has to be heard for some period of time to have anything to work with.

  • I'm pretty happy with Midi Guitar 2 on my 3 year old iPad mini. Using iRig Pro I/O as the interface.

I just downloaded the same trial on my M1 Mac desktop to hear / feel if there is much difference.

Somewhere I saw that Midi Guitar 3 is in beta.

  • 👍🏻👍🏻

Jam Synth can make synth sounds but also will create midi data. The manual says that it does cause a CPU spike to create midi data, so it may be what you were thinking when you asked.

With respect to bass, keep in mind that low notes are always the hardest to track because of their longer wavelength. That's physics.

One trick is to play up an octave or so and transpose down in MIDI.

    On iOS there's MG2 (mentioned) and MIDImorphosis2 (MM2?)

    There are also pickups:

Fishman TriplePlay (FTP) and Boss GK-5 + Boss GM-800
