Lol, The No Thanksgiving Thread

edited November 2023 in Other

Is this a new high or new low. It would be a high if us Uhmericans realized most of the world doesn’t celebrate the holiday. A new low if we just simply forgot.

Anyway, HTG to my countrymen wherever you are.

  • Happy Thanksgiving! I know the whole world doesn’t celebrate but I have a few friends and acquaintances in other countries and generally they just say it back to all their American friends lol

  • Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope we all realized the things we should be truly thankful for, and that we remembered that there are many who don’t have so much to be thankful for.

Hopefully no one spent the day thinking about the whitewashed history of the first settlers.

Not me. I celebrate for family not for the many wrongdoings of our early settlers. Thanks for pointing that out though, I’m glad the tides on that thinking are changing. When I was young and in school we learned almost nothing but the good things when it can to the early settlers.

But yes, times are touch right now for all of us, but still plenty to be thankful for. I have warm food and a roof over my head which sadly is more than a lot of people have and is often taken for granted during these cold winter months.

  • I completely forgot that stupid Murican story about how Native Americans and White folks made peace or some colonialist whitewashed shit. I focus on what I'm thankful for and feast with family and friends.

So yes, I celebrate Thanksgiving, but not because of a farce, but because of family and friends coming together.

(...I'm baked af rn and the room is spinning, so I don't know if I made any sense above. 😂)

😂😂😂 made plenty of sense to me my friend. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 🍃

  • It is a strange family ritual with a heart attack inducing menu. Coming so close the the winter holidays was a bad scheduling error. Especially when families spread out. Picking Thursday creates the rare 4 day weekend for many 8-5’ers.

And Turkey is so hard to cook well that it’s only attempted for one day a year. Our worst was a thanksgiving in a used motor home when it rained and the roof leaked, that bird would fit in the smaller over so we tried to hack it down to size and it wan’t quite defrosted and the youngest fell down the inside stairs into the mud. We were actually thankful when we got home on Sunday.

So many memories but mostly of crashing because eating a large meal focused on Turkey puts you out within an hour.

Add a lot of booze and you’re lucky to survive the event if you drive to attend. Family gatherings encourage self-medication anyway so… Good times every year if you made it through last year.

  • This year our cook served alligator filets and assorted seafood in a New Orleans themed feast. Much easier to control the consumption and digest the results with ease.

Short drive after to a hotel but a drunk ran a red light and scared us when we started moving forward and the car swerved to avoid us.

We only needed to go 1 mile. 125 mile drive in the morning to sting the cat from solitary at the vets. Expecting a ton of traffic so maybe a 4 hour drive.

    Good night, John Boy.

I would like to be able to express posts like this in music. That would be talent.
