Heavy Brass - internal vs MIDI keyboard - the same patch sounds differently, why? SOLVED
Hi, I would like to ask for advice.
I bought Heavy Brass (HB) yesterday and don't understand one thing for standalone on Inter-App Audio versions.
When I choose and play "Solo sax" patch from Singles category on HB internal keyboard I hear solo saxophone. But when I play the same patch on my external keyboard I hear saxophone AND some horns as second layer.
This is happened when I'm on "Omni Mode" or "MIDI channel 1". Otherwise I hear only horns without Sax (channels 2-16) on the same "Solo sax" patch.
I have no clue what's going on.

Sounds like an MPE thing. Is your keyboard sending MPE? Is the app set to receive MPE?
I don't think my small M-Vave SMK-25 Mini is capable to send MPE and also don't see any "MPE" option in Heavy Brass Settings.
MIDI Input is set to Core MIDI and cannot be changed.
Is there a velocity sensitivity option on the keyboard? Maybe there’s a velocity setting in the app to play more brass the harder you hit the keys.
I have Heavy Brass and haven’t noticed any issues but then again my midi controller has been broken for a few months so I’ve just been using the iPad only.
Are you sure there's no other app loaded that might also be receiving MIDI? It can be a bit difficult with stand-alone apps and Core MIDI to restrict MIDI messages to only one destination.
Also, is it possible that there are other Parts configured on other pages in the HB app?
Good point I already know that trap from Korg orchestral IAP and it was the first I re-checked on my keys. M-Vave has 4 predefined velocities and I tried them all and the sound is identical, only volume is changed from quieter to louder.
Yes, I'm sure. HB is only app which is running (restarted iPad)
Oh, parts! That's interesting point and because I didn't find a HB manual I can only describe my observation here:
Part1 - "Only Sax" is selected. Internal kb plays sax sound only, external kb plays sax with horns
Part2-16 -- first "Section1" is selected. Internal kb plays Section1, external kb still plays sax with horns (so maybe "Only sax" + "Section1"?)
And there is the most interesting thing: I changed "Section1" patch to "Heavy Brass 3" (with drastically different sound from Section1) on all 2-16 pages one by one. On Page4 I got a different sound from external kb. I have no idea why just on Page4.
@filo01 did you ever get it figured out?

Interesting. Is there some On/Off control on those pages? Or maybe only Page4 is configured to use MIDI or Channel 1?
I finally got it!
Each part (1-16) can receive MIDI on channel 1-16 + Omni.
I checked the individual parts and they all had the MIDI channel set to their number (Part1=MIDI channel 1, Part2=MIDI channel 2, ...) except of Part 4, where the MIDI channel was set to 1. That's why I heard the sound from Page1 and Page4 together.
So solution was really simple - set MIDi channel on Part 4 to 4.
Thank you @HotStrange and @uncledave for your patience and help!
Glad you got it figured out @filo01
Heavy Brass is a really good app! It makes me interested in their church organ app too. Have you tried it?
No, I didn't. Organs are category I like to listen but not play.
