Yeah I saw that a couple weeks ago. I have the free version and it seems great but I’m not sure it does enough for me to justify buying the full version when I have Voices, the TB app, GSDSP Fusion, etc.
Does it offer anything different?
I have totally forgotten this great & fun synth, Voice Synth!
Had to look in my purchase History and saw that I bought it in version 1 already 2013…
Times fly by…
Have to revisit it this weekend.
Voice synth is nothing like voices etc…it’s sounds like its own thing…very dilak and cylon at times
Far out! It's been years since I've mucked about with Voice Synth.
Yeah I wasn’t necessarily comparing them. More so saying I’m not sure how much I’d use it (I rarely use vocals) considering I have many other vocal effects. This does look unique though. If the AUv3 ever goes on sale I may pick it up.
But it looks like it was an AU already some time ago.
I was thinking that as well - I’m sure this is the case.
I find a lot of the presets to be quite mushy and hard to make out what the original gibberish actually was.
It received the AUv3 functionality in an update 5 years ago. I once won it in a giveaway and I would say that it is not only one of the best vocoder for iOS (if not the best). Since you can also put it in the effect slot and trigger it via midi, its extensive and exposed parameters and 270 presets make it an excellent effect device. And it is a sampler, additionally you can import files and play the samples while running them through the internal algorithms. A very versatile app, I've seen much more expensive ones with much less usable value.
One notable update for Voice Synth this year is that it became universal, with a Mac version included in the price.
That begins to make me consider buying it. Not a ton of music devs are doing the full universal and charging separately (and of course, a much higher price) for the desktop versions. It’s understandable…but that makes this app quite a good deal
Alright fine you’ve convinced me 😂
I’ve been on the fence because I do genuinely like the sound of the free version and $11.99 seems like a good value for what it does. I’ll take the punt, why not. Before I go in 100% though, are the any good must see demos you’d recommend?
Leo did quite an extensive overview…
…and Jakob a nice comparison
Also Jade Starr made 1h video but unfortunately no one had the idea to demonstrate the app's fx capabilities beyond its vocoder features in interaction with other apps.
I think it makes a lot of sense to send synths and drums through a vocoder. Especially when it is as extensively equipped as Voice Synth. The integrated arp, for example, also provides pleasant surprises. All in all, a great playground with many possibilities to multiply the existing presets in your synth arsenal.
It’s worth a combo meal pricetag
Try running Voice Synth THROUGH bleass Voices, for Science!
Would that be like running one instance of Voices AUv3 through another instance of Voices AUv3? Or do you get some other interesting effect?
Bleass Voices is a harmonizer, not a vocoder, so they're totally different fx
Ah, ok. Thanks for the info Gav!
No probs! Yeah a lot of ppl seem to keep thinking of it as a vocoder
If they want people to know it is a harmoniser then maybe they should have called it "Bleass Harmoniser". LOL!
Have you used Voices on non-vocal material?
It’s like hooking up a Flow-Bee to a Kirby, or so I’ve heard…
I did briefly when it first came out, I think my short demo of it was using synth, tho I honestly can't even remember, and I haven't used it since. Too many apps! Only ever end up using a small number of the apps I get per year, some just grab me, some don't, often not related at all to quality or usefulness, just pure overwhelm. I feel that apps are maybe like people - we can only really care about a hundred or so at any given time 🤷♂️
Yes, I know what you mean. Way too many apps. Sometimes I think of an app to use and I can't even remember the name or what the icon looks like. I have to do a YouTube search to identify it. Better than too little apps I guess....
I guess haha, as long as ppl don't go broke buying all the damn things, which I think to be honest, does happen. That's really the individual's responsibility, though ability to demo apps would do a lot to help avoid it happening 🤷♂️
I’ve heard that stat before, but I find it much harder to use 100 apps in any meanigful way. I also feel the overwhelming sensation of having so many apps that the combined learning curves just make it so much easier to stick with the handful that I know well enough. I need a New Year’s resolution to learn a few of the apps I have but never use. Voice Synth is one.
Amen! Yeah of course I'm just throwing that number and comparison out somewhat carelessly. In reality of course, it's always more complex. Main point is that it's often better to stick to a relatively small number of apps and get familiar with them.
I would imagine 100 is a pretty low number compared or what a lot of us here have on our iPads lol
Thanks! I forgot all about the Jakob video. It seems like I’ve really underestimated what this app can do. I kinda wrote it off initially to be honest but it seems very much capable of a wide array of sounds.
For sure! I have 814 apps on my iPhone and I bet 700 of them are music related, but I use maybe a dozen of them. Getting rid of some of the ones I don’t use requires spending at least some time using them to see if they are potentially useful (now or in the future) or no longer possibly useful. That’s daunting.
Haha I get that. Do you have AUBE? It counts how many AUs you have (doesn’t count IAA) and I’m not sure I even want to mention my number 😂
That said I actually end up getting around to using all of them for the most part because I like to change up my workflow song to song. I do have a dozen or so apps that I always use but a lot of the times when I’m in AUM I’ll intentionally use apps I haven’t used in a while and usually end up having fun lol.
But yes there are plenty I don’t delete simply because diving in to “make sure” is a daunting and time consuming task.
