Anyone else unable to use Touch ID on their Mac/ iMac/ desktop... at all? **UPDATE: SOLVED**

This seems to be a problem caused by Sonoma. And I'm unable to solve this so far using some of the techniques described in this help thread at Apple.

It seems to be a widespread issue, but not everyone is affected.

  • Have you tried power cycling the keyboard? I recall having a similar issue a while back and was able to fix by using the on/off slider on my external touchid keyboard off then on.

Yep. Didn’t do anything for me.

Update: It did work, however it requires a restart of the computer into Safe Mode first (see below).

  • Working normally here.

Which version of macOS? Which computer?

UPDATE: AHA! Problem is now fixed, thanks to some people on the Apple support boards.

It requires a restart into "Safe Mode":

    https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/start-up-your-mac-in-safe-mode-mh21245/mac

Then, a disconnection, shut off and reconnection of the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.

    THEN Touch ID works again.
