free cross-platform file sharing app with no ads and no tracking?
Does this exist?
Free and no tracking might suffice..
edit: Just across a LAN is fine btw.

No good one that I know of.
But I like the SFTP File Provider because it's one of the few that plugs into the Files.app.
You'll need an sftp server on your network.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sftp-file-provider/id1406981461
FE File Explorer Pro can access network servers, both local and cloud. It can store files locally, in its own folders, and is visible as a File Provider (sidebar) in the Files app. So it's a useful bridge between the iOS world and the outside world. I keep all my downloaded music files in it. It can also access the Files app folders of other apps. The pic shows my setup.
Owlfiles is free and from the same developer, IIRC the name was changed from FE File Explorer some time back. Privacy wise it collects identifiers whereas FE Pro collects nothing.
If you need security for your file sharing, you'll probably want a paid solution.
Sharing between what kind of devices?
LAN drop ?

These days, mostly iOS and Windows.
You can use the Files app:
https://osxdaily.com/2021/02/24/how-access-windows-shared-folder-iphone-ipad/
As @michael_m points out, the files app can work for this. But you can't copy files directly to the iOS device from Windows in this way. You can copy into and out of the shared folder in Windows, but you have to access the share from the iOS device to transfer files to / from it. I probably didn't explain that too well. 🤦🏻♂️
For simple stuff:
Web based , free open source

Thanks all of you. But this one looks to be the exact thing I was after. Fantastic.
Well , I should mention I haven't tried on Windows (I use Linux) and don't know how stable it is .
Hope it's performing well , if you find a bug it's worth noting that the devs are very helpful
I recommend goftp
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/goftp-server/id1610864726
Since you are on linux, in dolphin file explorer you can create a network connection and transfer files and multiple folders from within dolphin. The only catch is that the files and folders must be in the goftp folder which is the root of the file share.
So each week when transferring all my aum recordings, i copy that folder to goftp, start the server, and drag and drop those recording folders in dolphin.
With kde connect you can only transfer files or multiple files, not folders.
I havent looked at the smb Files app yet. Maybe thats the better solution, maybe same
There is also icloud-for-linux i havent tried yet
Regarding ios Files smb connection:

See section 4.22 for configuring for ios
I (the OP) am not on Linux. But if the above is useful for others, cool. No problem either way.
