Remnants (a collaboration… rottencat and Paulieworld)

@rottencat graciously provided me with a soundscape created in Relics Wave, to have my way with. I combined it with Launchpad and a few other bits, to create a Post Apocalyptic, end of the world dance track.

We finally did it!

After living for decades under the threat of Mutually Assured Destruction, someone finally pushed the button.

It was a normal day like any other… then it wasn’t.

Billionaires received ample warning and live comfortably in their subterranean palaces, with years of food, water, liquor… and servants. There is also a plentiful supply of young (very young) girls to assist in repopulation.

High ranking government officials worldwide were so confident that their lofty titles guaranteed them a place in the afterworld. They were wrong. They too were just useful idiots.

The few that remain point the remains of their remaining fingers at each other, but as the old woman famously said, “At this point, what difference does it make?”.

A few “lucky” survivors stumbled upon temporary sources of running water and electricity, and have taken up residence. Were they left intentionally by someone with a heart, or just an oversight missed in the chaos? What difference does it make?

A hundred or so have gathered in one such residence - a warehouse for a large industrial dry cleaner. Rows of unclaimed business suits in clear plastic body bags look like the aftermath of a mass executive execution.

An enterprising promoter installed a “totally awesome” lighting system, but only a few cans work. Faint light comes from VU meters of an old, analog mixing console set up on a makeshift stage. There doesn’t appear to be a DJ anywhere in sight.

Strange, dangerous, post apocalyptic changes simmer in the distance.

They begin to “dance”. Not so much a dance, but more of a spastic, zombie-like jerking fit. Bless me Saint Vitus for I have sinned. Feet firmly planted in place, the only movement coming from arms, hands, and bobbing, throbbing heads. They bounce up and down, knees slightly bent, twitching fingers making wild flutely movements.

These are last of the remaining few… the remnants.

And now we dance…

  • Sounds absolutely super good! The mood is perfectly rendered, great storytelling with music.

  • I'm not really into "dance music", never was, but this isn't dance music, it's art. Awesome storytelling and collaboration.

  • Excellent work as always Paulie! You both killed it 🤙🏼

I really like this. It appeals to the side of me that enjoys FSOL Dead Cities.

It definitely creates a dark manacing industrial atmosphere. The rhythm section has quite a tribal vibe, which really does enhance the images of groups of people scattered around in derelict places and reduced to their basic needs and instincts.

Congrats to you both @Paulieworld @rottencat for a successful collaberation.

Thank you so much. I rather like being called an “artist”!

I don’t usually do ambient, but when I heard this I had to try it. It practically wrote itself. Thanks!

When I heard her track, it brought back memories of one of the greatest… Eraserhead. It was like the Finnigan’s Wake of film. I’m still trying to figure it out. @rottencat just did a new video using this. I just watched it. It’s just what I had in mind. Hang in there, bro. We’re praying for you.

Yes, it definitely does. The whole thing has a 90s vibe to it.

I like it, and am going to listen to it again a few times I’m sure.

  • Great build-up on this, love when the drums come in - totally nefarious! Thanks for transporting me to another albeit terrifyingly groovy time. Excellent collaboration!

  • Very nice!
