Record midi from internal play surface of AUV3

Can anyone help me record midi From an AUV3 Play surface? I’m aware of the record midi to here option, but this only appears when using a midi FX slot. What about something like Animoog Z or iFretless bass etc. that already have excellent play surfaces. The manual only talks about using one of LP play surfaces, or an external controller. This is not a problem in Cubasis, or even GarageBand if I remember correctly?

  • Hopefully someone chimes in but I’ve found a work around. I can load say iFretless bass as a midi instrument in LP, then set up AUM with iFretless bass in an instrument or midi slot and send midi out (AUM source) to LP (set to AUM in midi input inspector) Seems kind of clumsy but an advantage is having multiple controllers in AUM and switching between them on the fly. Using task manager to switch windows is pretty fast, but there has to be a better way!?

  • Midi Tape Recorder may work for this. Haven’t tried it in Logic but it works for recording performances like that inside AUM.

  • Animoog Z and Model 15 will record from their native keyboards as MIDI in Logic: just press record and play. There is no special handshake to set it up, it should just work, including MPE as far as I can tell.

You are correct, although randomly, it will show nothing or a blank midi region, but there are many plug-ins whose keyboard function but record nothing. (Sunrizer, anything by audio kit etc. ) Although admittedly, there’s no real reason to use these. A quick test shows that they don’t work in Cubasis either. However all the iFretless apps work perfectly in Cubasis, including window resizing, which is another major issue with these apps in particular in LP. I’ll have to get in touch with Blue Mangoo (dev for iFretless )
    Thanks for your input!

Thanks, I did try that, without success, but I’m not very familiar with that app so could’ve been me… How else are you using it?

So far I’ve only used it a handful of times to record in AUM and then send that midi back to other synths. I like it because it still records the tails and actual performances. I have Logic offloaded due to storage capacity so I can’t test it there right now unfortunately.
