I loaded my project with SWAM French Horn, hit play, and on the 16th bar, LP4iOS crashed. 😳
I'll give a try later and report !

It seems like a lot of Audio Units are having difficulty with Logic for iPad. I think we will start seeing many updates soon.
I was seeing crashes in Logic with SWAM Cello. What I found I had to do was after putting the SWAM Cello in the track was to close the project and reopen before adding expression to any tracks to avoid crashes.
I think something was going on with the CPU as it showed itself being fully utilized when nothing was really running. After closing and reopening the project the CPU didn’t show itself being fully used anymore. It may have something to do with the SWAM instruments being physically modeled which requires a good amount of CPU resources to work.
This is on an M1 iPad Pro with 2tb storage and 16gb memory.
What I found interesting is that I could put one or more Geoshred based SWAM Cellos in Logic with no issues.
One of the issues I have/had with logic was that a lot of AUV3 weren’t usable or stable in Logic. C3 is basically rock solid when it comes to that and you can use IAA apps. A lot of devs updated their apps to work within Logic but some still haven’t and haven’t indicated if or when they will. That’s one of the big reasons I switched back to Cubasis.
I ran into some of that early on, but haven't noticed any crashes lately and I've been using Logic daily since release. My default "jam" track has 3 instances of SWAM (cello, flute, tenor sax) and it loads without a hitch every day. Maybe I've just been getting lucky... knocks on the nearest slab of wood
Thanks all - I’m on a 2021 iPad Pro and as @zqekdnxebq says, it’s overloading with next to nothing on the track. Closing and reopening the project may work, I’ll try that thanks. The same SWAM instrument runs perfectly in Cubasis 3. I’ve emailed the dev, and will report back if I get a response. I guess I should also report to Apple.
This time I tried SWAM French Horn in the dRambo. A new clean project, with only the SWAM instrument inserted in track one. It plays OK, but as soon as you hit the “MAP” button, it gets frozen, including dRambo.
(iPad M2, iOS 17.1)
So most likely an issue with the SWAM plug-ins then...
...as I don't own any I can't verify but it goes to show that even the higher-priced plug-ins can bail at some point and a higher plug-in price is no a guarantee that they will work and be supported any better that the cheap ones.
Do let SWAM know that their plug-ins misbehave. I mean they are not the cheapest plug-ins out there...
I’m very concerned because I bought 18 SWAM instruments. I will do more testing during the day and send the findings to Audio Modeling. 😟
If it's a 'generic issue' that needs fixing in the framework they use to port the all their plug-ins they can most likely do a 'batch fix' and update all of them at one. I only have one SWAM IAP in GeoShred (Tenor Sax) and it's working flawlessly.
17.2 was released last Monday fixing some memory-leaks and other under-the-hood memory management related issues.
(As you're already on 17.1 there's no worries jumping to 17.2).
Hopefully Audio Modeling is responsive and issues updates asap.
Cheers!
I noticed this, I’m very careful updating my main iPad. But after the update to 17.2, I can map knobs, but as soon as I started to record modulation, the SWAM instrument got frozen. This time, dRambo lived through it.
In Logic for iOS, another story. Now that the testing project worked fine, SWAM was not frozen after extensive automation.
Also, I got this message when I first opened the testing project after the update.
(iPad M2, iOS 17.2)
This is most like an iCloud sync issue. I get a similar thing every time AudioLayer or iPadOS is updated.
Personally I never keep 'live' projects on iCloud and only use it when transferring stuff between devices.
(Logic can be set to default to using Local storage in Settings -> Logic Pro).
Thankfully you do not get any duplicates...
I just updated to iOS 17.2 but it solved nothing unfortunately. Have now reported it to Apple as well as Audio Modelling
Goodie, Let us know if Audio Modeling gets back you!
(I know the Logic Team reads every single feedback report sent to them, I've gotten a reply on one issues so far).
They’ve got back to me saying they cannot reproduce the issue, and asked that I send them the project, which I have done.
In Logic 4iOS, I tried with many SWAM instruments, all automated and working fine. I need more time to test it extensively. So far, so good. 🤞
I have the same problem.
Simple Tenor Sax arpeggio. After 6 beats it crackles then LP4i freezes.
Copying the same MIDI region to the Flute, it breaks after 1 beat.
As soon as i delete the expression automation, everything works fine.
LP4i 1.1
iPadOS 17.2
iPad Pro M2 16 GB
Did you update iOS to the latest version, 17.2?
Yes, always up-to-date
LP4i 1.1
iPadOS 17.2
As I don't own any of the SWAM instruments (and will not buy any just to test with) I'm out of ideas.
If it's the expression automation that messes things up it's definitely something the developer should be able to track down...
Phew! It’s not just me 😉
It is clearly a bug in LP4i.
I recorded the same Tenor Sax arpeggio and Expression automation in Drambo.
Flawless replay.
Then added Growl and Breath Noise automation.
No problem at all.
Time to 'bombard' here until it gets fixed?

Exactly the same in Cubasis - no issue at all
That makes sense to me. I have Cubasis 2 and 3, but never used them (I had hoped I would like 3 better than 2 so I bought it).
But stability is a huge positive, so I’m gonna play around with it now. Thanks for the perspective, friend!
I tried performing this exactly and no crashes here. I automated in growl as well and also fine.
This is really strange. Hopefully Apple can get a fix out soon for you.
Could this be one of those M1 vs M2 issues?
No, tested also on my secondary iPad with A12X processor.
Same behavior.
