Sign out of and back into the App Store?
Yes, some combination of signing out and back in and/or rebooting often fixes this sort of problem on most platforms.
I get that once in a blue moon. I never sign out though I suppose that would work too. I either type in the password, or close and reopen the App Store. If you go to the App Store where updates are and pull down it will refresh and log you in. Sometimes apps I’ve purchased but don’t have on my device, show up as if I’ve never had them. So I usually go into the account icon in the top right and it always syncs back up. I might open purchase history briefly, or check for updates in the App Store and it always recognizes me at that point.
Have you tried logging out of your Apple ID (top of Settings), then logging back in?
I don't believe it removes anything, but up to you.
Somehow, your playing around has caused AppStore to not trust your device, so it's requiring you to explicitly log in every time. It might not be possible to restore this trusted status if there's an inconsistancy in the states.
If you fight the way Apple does things at every turn you'll just end up making life miserable for yourself.
If you can't bring yourself to embrace the Appley-ness of Apple devices, you might just be better off with Google or Microsoft as your overlord instead.
A bug in the App Store? No! I simply can't believe it.
😂
Irony? Me? Never!
Just to check have you already went into the settings and made sure Touch ID for App Store is turned on? A lot of the times when making adjustments like that (taking Touch ID off) you have to manually turn it back on for certain things and the App Store is usually one of them.
Also signing out and signing back in won’t delete anything if you have it backed up to iCloud. When you go to sign out it gives you a list of what you want to keep. Nothing should change just from signing out and back in. I’ve done it multiple times with no issues.
Gotcha. Good luck either way, hope they works for you 🙏
I hope it works out that the actual time spent trying to fix it isn't much more than 1000x the actual amount of time spent just entering your password when you buy something on that one single device. 😉
Just joking really. I know it isn't about that. It's like having an itchy hair stuck in your shirt after getting your hair cut.
The funny thing is though, I bet it'll eventually mysteriously resolve itself. Some cached lock lurking deep in the bowels of Apple's data centers will expire and it'll magically start working.
Lol that feeling of a straggler left behind after a cut is the worst.

I thought of such a thing - when the app store asks you for a password, did you enter it and buy that thing you wanted to buy or did you cancel? Because maybe it is the case that it only asks you the first time, and the next times will already be done through touch id?
The second thing - some time ago when I upgraded my ipados to 16.7 I couldn't access the appstore. I had a text saying no connection to the appstore. But I could see my purchase history and re-download what I once bought, but I couldn't browse and look for new stuff. I tried various things, but finally only "reset ipad settings" helped. Unfortunately it's a bit tedious because you have to set everything from the beginning - wifi, wallpaper, sounds, screen lock and other things. It takes a while but in my case it helped. Maybe it's worth considering?
