KENKA - 90s Techno

Hi,

my name is Ken I'm a 33 years old aspiring techno artist. After long years of searching my own style I decided to settle down into the 90s techno/EBM/electronica genre.

Some may recognize some of my tracks.

Enjoy!

  • Welcome 👋

Interested to know more about your productions.

  • Welcome! This forum could use some more techno artists. I’m also curious about what daw, synths and drums you use. Nice track

  • Hello,

    I use Cubase Pro 12 with Sylenth/Ministry of Rock/EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Platinum/Slate Digital subscription/Ample Guitar L.

My aim is to create something referring to the 90s, like the Electronica or Techno of this period. Although I might compose some less aggressive sounds from one album to the other, my leitmotif is EBM.

    Cheers

Nice! I’m a huge Detroit techno and acid house fan! Especially Drexciya and Juan Atkins.

  • I don't know both sorry.
When I was around 10 years old I heard the soundtrack of a PS1 game, the artists were Kenichi Tsuchiya, Masaki Kurokawa and Toshiko Tasaki. It was a blast for this age. Then naturally all the best hits of 2000 hit my mind, even old it seems nowadays. Also I've been into underground EBM since I was 15 years old and this affected in long term my music creativity.

Everyone welcome though! Lots of people making music on both desktop and iOS. They’re just tools. 👍

Welcome! We could definitely use more techno here. I was there at the rise of house and techno music in the early 90s, such an exciting period where all this was underground and experimental. The modern EDM music with dj-superstars has for me nothing in common of what it once was. I am especially into minimal/dub techno, take a peek at my https://slush1.bandcamp.com/
This forum has a great mix of people making music in all kind of styles, but few are into this niche of music. Be prepared to live with little applause :#

Listening to your bandcamp, first track I play Fodder is already great in my opinion, can't wait to listen to the rest! Really feels like the 90s

  • And thanks gus, jdp and Slush for your warm welcome!

I just released a new single, worked more in depth the mix with technics I never learned, like side chain. I need feedback on this one's mix/master, does it sounds too low? Thanks.

    Ditto!
Got some vinyl in the crates here somewhere… could be a 1210s session Sunday, I’ll spin some steel!

Your Gedichte-Romance track is very nice, compliments! Your other tracks are interesting too. I notice on some of your tracks your kicks are maybe lacking a bit of energy, bass. Maybe you like it that way and that’s fine, but personally I would give the kicks more energy.

Listen to this record, I found it on YouTube, I bought the original in the 1993, I know it well. That 909 kick, do you feel it? Techno music is energy. It’s a drive, from one record to the other. But again, compliments, keep on producing, every track you create is a learning school, for me it is certainly is and I still got a lot to learn.

  • Thanks for the compliment.

I know techno is energy, but I can't find 909 kicks in Cubase default VSTs

I see. Can’t help you there. The only thing I do in Cubasis is importing my final WAV recording and master it. I personally never work with timelines. You might want to look into a drummachine app like VADrum2 (808/909). I sequence it with Octachron. Or Pure Acid has a great drummachine with an 808/909/707/606. And of course a tb303 emulation :)

  • Both VADrum2 and Pure Acid are my main drum machines. Both are excellent Roland x0x style drums. You can also find some free 909 samples online.

  • Lucid nerve is great! 💪

  • Gonna try those, thanks for the inputs!

  • I released a new single GEDICHTE which includes Romance Central remastered.
    Hope you enjoy!

oh thanks alot, although I assume my experimental style, since I've been drawn into industrial music since young, I like to experiment, but will definitively check!

Industrial music, like Godflesh? Saw them live in Rotterdam in the 90s, so good.
I like your new Gedichte single, and hey, energy kick! Great.👍
