Aum MiRack sync

Hi everyone, I’m struggling to get aum and the clocked module to sync- things I have tried so far
1 clock output of host sync set to 8
2 clocked module bpm input set to 8
3 momentary run on clocked activated
Aum sample rate tried all settings
Sometimes the run light on the clocked module will randomly go on and off
The tempo display varies wildly
I love aum and MiRack but can’t use them together reliably!
Any thoughts suggestions welcome!

You have the host clock output patched to the BPM input of Clocked. Have you tried connecting the host BPM output to clock’s BPM ?

  • You might also want to connect the host run and start outputs to clocked.

  • Here's how I do it:

host sync BPM -> clocked BPM
host sync Run -> clocked Run
host sync Stop -> clocked Reset

Also set clocked settings to "Momentary RUN input"

  • It looks like the only Clocked BPM Mode that works is "CV", and for that you need to connect the Host BPM to the Clocked BPM input. Clocked does not seem to be able to sync to the Clock provided by AUM.

  • Also, the Clocked Run input is actually a Play/Pause toggle. You can OR the Host Start and Stop pulses to control it. May need to press Run once manually to sync it with the host Play/Pause control. Be sure the Clocked Momentary RUN Input setting is not enabled.

Seems weird not to connect the Host Sync clock to anything, but that’s how it is.

The clocked module doesn't have a clock input. So, telling it what the tempo is and when to run is what you to work with. It is intended as a clock source itself.

Yeah, I understand that, I’m just sympathising with the OP’s confusion!

It’s not that obvious for new users. When I first got MiRack I only found out how to do it properly from digging through a mound of postings on here (particular the need to change the setting for Momentary Run Input). Its the kind of thing that could do with being in a FAQ or getting started guide within the app itself.

    💯

  • There seems to be something wrong with the Host Sync Clock output. I'll look into this asap as I understand how important it is to have proper synchronisation with the host clock (and connecting BPM and Run/Reset won't give correct results in case of BPM changes).

On a side note, I mentioned in another thread that I'm planning to add a module that'd combine functionality of Clocked (standalone clock source), Link and Host Sync modules because the current way of using them together is indeed confusing and is not ideal.

  • Hi @mifki. Also, I believe the GUI for the Momentary RUN Input is inverted. When checked, RUN accepts the level (steady input) from the RUN Host Signal. When unchecked, RUN expects start and stop pulses (momentary inputs) to toggle the run state.

  • It's supposed to mean that it'll be in run state for as long as the input is present rather than the input toggling run state. That's I think what momentary vs toggle button is? I'm happy to replace it with a better wording though.

That's actually not the best way. I know it's not intuitive, but host sync Clock should go to Clocked BPM. Then you use the mode switch to change to P8, and set host sync module CLOCK Rate to Beat / 8. Run should be patched to Run and Momentary Run Input set from the Clocked menu.

That setup has always worked flawlessly for me. If that isn't working right then as @mifki said, it has become broken.

    Off to test...

Oh yeh, it's borked. Used to sync perfectly this way.
Seems to be the host sync module at fault if the plug lights are any indication.

I really like the Clocked module. It takes up a lot of space, but boy does it do the job! Combining it with the Link module would be cool though. I just hope that the Link module will continue to work in the AUv3 version. That can be very handy.

    Thanks for the clarification/correction.

  • Temporary workaround:

    • Add Mozaic Midi Clock tool to AUM and route it to miRack.

      • Follow Start/Stop: YES, Send Start/Stop: YES, HOST Clock
    • Use the midi input module rather than the host sync module in miRack.

      • Set CLK1 Rate to 24 PPQN in the midi input module.
    • Patch STRT to Run and CLK1 to BPM.

    • Use the mode switch to get to P 24 in Clocked
    • Momentary Run: OFF in Clocked

    Seems to be stable.

Will Clocked as it is still be available? It's in nearly all my patches, and I’ve been known to use a couple of them now and then on occasions.

    Same here

  • I have to say it’s great to get such a response thanks everyone! I love aum and MiRack, in desperation I had a hihat from hammerhead going as audio into MiRack but it was a bit of a hack- reminded me of the days of hardware ahaha thanks again!

  • Wim this is indeed very stable! Genius! Thanks so much, I’m going to have learn a bit of mosaic to understand it!

It's a workaround though. I'm sure @mifki will get host sync working again real soon. He's great like that. 😎

    Ahh. I see you're using @catherder 's enhanced version. 👍🏼
I keep meaning to check that one out.

It’s out and working great again. 👍
JW Modules XY Pad is fixed too.

    Thanks!

  • I made a quick Wiki entry with the best sync settings I've found for the AUv3 plugin. https://wiki.audiob.us/doku.php?id=mirack#host_clock_sync
