JWM and HotStrange - Alien Sunset (Lofi created on OP-1 Field)
So this is a part of the "help me build my next EP" challenge and is the third track I've created for the EP. I created this track based on the prompts @HotStrange gave me. Of course Lofi is one of my bread-and-butter genres, so I figured to post this to SoundCloud.
The first two tracks of my EP are rather dark in nature, so I'll save releasing those until I compile the EP. While this track is also a bit dark, it's mellow and chill and a breath of fresh air.
Cheers and enjoy.

Very nice work, indeed!🙂
Very good stuff! @jwmmakerofmusic @HotStrange !
Thank you bestie. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Believe me, not all the tracks will be this pleasant to listen to, lol.
Tonight I start @michael_m 's request, and yes I will be stoned af, lol. Meanwhile I'll be listening to Dub House all day to grok the genre. I think I've grokked it already, but I want to be sure I nail the aesthetic. (I'm pretty quick to pick up the aesthetic of most genres, although Psy Trance still eludes me while remaining dazzling to listen to.)
Great sound! 😍 I love it.
Thank you so much mate. Can't wait for @HotStrange to give it a listen!
Aw thanks mate. Just noticed this reply now since it seems we posted simultaneously. 😂
That’s good, Jim. What do you mean by @HotStrange ’s prompts?
Beautiful! What a sweet way to start my day. Fmaj7 for the win!
Nice vibey track! Not my genre, but I do appreciate the mix of sounds and the craftmanship!

Nice mellow track with some interesting sit up and listen moments.
Thanks but all I did was provide prompts, this is musically all the main man himself.
Dude you are absolutely KILLING it ❤️🙏🙏😮💨
Alien Sunset is the perfect title. This one has a very specific feeling and I’m really digging it. Amazing work my friend
Thanks mate. By "HotStrange's prompts", I mean this thread. https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/58801/help-me-build-my-next-op-1-field-ep
Wanted to involve our little community in this project and have some fun with it.
Thanks mate. Fmaj7, yes! I made sure to lead with that chord and its extensions since HotStrange did request "Avante-Jazz".
Excellent mate. I do love compliments from people who don't normally dig the genre but dig it nevertheless.
Sweet! Thank you so much mate. Your track is next. By the way mate, if you can provide me with some Youtube examples of Dub House in this thread...

...I'd appreciate it. Tried to find out what Dub House is, but the playlist I listened to on Spotify titled "Dub House" really wasn't strictly Dub House as it had Bass House, Vocal House, Progressive House, Big Room House, etc. I'm thinking that Kaskade's and Deadmau5's album "Kx5" would be Dub House, no?
Thank you so much. Well, you did select one of my "bread and butter" genres afterall, lol.
All in all a great time so far. Now to figure out what is meant by "Dub House", rofl!
Dub House I was thinking about things like this:
Those are amazing tracks! Just finished listening to all three. "Two Months Off" sounds like the vibe I'd like to shoot for. Reminds me a little bit of early Deadmau5, but with more groove and more sounds popped in at random.
Okay, as per your request, I shall get high in a sec and then begin!
😂
Maybe my term is out of date. It’s probably a 90s thing that might not be used anymore.
Ah, maybe, maybe not. Dub music usually relies on sparse arrangement and lots of delay effects. Your examples were a bit different than what I expected, but in a good way of course.
I always thought that the word “dub” wasn’t applied to things like this in the right way, but there was dub techno, dub house, dub this, dub that - none of it sounding like typical dub music.
Very true. I was confused when listening to the "Dub House" playlist on Spotify today, as I recognised half of the bloody tracks on there. A wide variety of subgenres of House in general, and for some reason Tiësto's "Wasted" was on there too.
Liking your Eno-like approach to setting song parameters. Are you mastering in Logic, or is this OP-1 raw output?
Me too, although in this case I get some of my mates and besties to be a part of the experience and fun rather than rely on a deck of cards.
(I'll probably still buy an official Oblique Strategies deck in the new year just to own a piece of Eno merch that also serves a function rather than simply "looks pretty". 🤪 )
Recording the output into and Mastering in Logic Pro. But, as the saying goes, "you can't polish a turd". 😅 So far I've yet to record anything into Logic Pro that sounds like a turd sandwich from the OP-1 Field.
Again, this is such a great track and such a great idea. Super excited to where else this leads. Is it all gonna be put together one on project as a whole?
Yes it will mate.
Awesome, dude. And I really like the idea of having someone else pick the parameters of the track lol. Deciding that, as simple as it is, can be so difficult a lot of the time. Good idea!
Thanks mate. Sometimes I use ChatGPT to pick parameters, but yeah I wanted to involve our nice community and see what happened.
I never expected to make Post Punk for instance as I had only listened to the genre a little bit here and there in the past, but I got to get something off my chest and make a diss song about an ex-friend of mine (he's not from our forum thankfully) while nailing the surface-level aspects and feel of the genre as a whole!
The Lofi track above was easier as Lofi is my "bread and butter". Now I'm working on a style of slower House which may or may not have vocals (tbd). ☺️
Awesome!
