Ruismaker Noir or Hammerhead?
If I get at least two sales on the Bandcamp album I just posted in the “Creations” subforum here I’ll be able to afford one of these two . Which one would you recommend I get first? I eventually will get both , but curious as to your thoughts.
I’ll be using whichever one on next month’s release

I voted Hammerhead because it has the most direct utility value. You can do so much with it.
But if your music is more experimental in nature, Noir can bring out uniquiness you won't find with other apps. I find it more inspiring than Hammerhead for breaking out of the ruts I tend to get into.
They both are must haves for me (to put it mildly) . And yeah we’re definitely an experimental group 😎
together they are a deadly combo🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
I voted for Noir (I love it), but it really does depend on whatever duplication there is with what you already have. So if you have a “regular” drum machine already, Noir is the obvious choice. But if you want something that’s more all-purpose first, then Hammerhead makes more sense.
The only drum machine I have is Ruismaker FM (and the built in GarageBand stuff) as of now
If you want a more traditional sequencer to use with your (built in or your own creations) percussive sounds get Hammerhead
If you want morphing tonally modulating percussive sounds and a less traditional drum machine that borders on synthesizer territory get Noir
My 2c in 2 sentences
Got both
Love both
Treat yourself to both
Simple
Soon as I can afford to I definitely will (which was part of the reason why I dropped a release on bandcamp a day early… gotta recoup some of that Christmas expenditure!) I definitely want both and Salome too)
I use Noir more. Techno/electro. But yes, both.
I love Drum Computer as well. Besides using it on it’s own, I also use it to sequence other drum apps including Hammerhead. Randomization in Drum Computer is magic.
P.S. I voted for Hammerhead.
I only have Hammerhead but want Noir as well. I’d say get HH for versatility, it’s an incredible drum app.
If you decide to get Noir be sure to grab the free preset pack from Electronisounds
Oh I’ll definitely be getting that preset pack for sure…that video got me craving me some Noir. I’m learning more about Hammerhead and slowly getting more and more intrigued! I have plans for both for sure!
I vibe with Bram’s apps a lot… he along with Iceworks and Toneboosters are my favorite developers by a long shot. Had I had the ability to go back in time, I might have just gotten all the apps from those devs and that might have held me over
I really do want both , like big time. My last three releases haven’t sold anything , and it’s a tad bit discouraging…that’s why when I see people talk about Spotify being evil I’m like “at least we get noticed there !” Streaming royalties though go to bills.
Not too familiar with Drum Computer… I’ll have to look more into it
Edit
I don’t see it… is it iPad only
Yup. iPad only.
both for me.
they are very different beasts.
Hammerhead is straightforward & versatile AF.
Ruismaker Noir rocks for some harsher kinds of music that i do.
Man that was a hard choice. The experimentalist in me wanted to choose Noir but overall Hammerhead is far and away my most used drum machine so I had to go with that option. Both are fantastic and highly worth having though. Hammerhead is just next level though. If I could only keep one drum machine it would be that no question.
Bram Bos is excellent, from the apps to his forum presence. Just a really great vibe overall
Keep it up man! Sometimes when a release doesn’t go as well as I has hoped, I find solace in how the music fills my soul along the way.
It’s definitely easier to get people to listen on Spotify than to purchase on bandcamp! I personally can’t wait for the day Spotify falls but it’s a necessary evil in the industry I guess. Do you have merch or play shows? I find those to be much better for music income
The OG Ruismaker is still one of my go-to's for synth-drum sounds.
It offers just the right amount of tweaking and the different drum models are very well done!
I have both. I like Noire much more. It’s unique as far as my plugins go and I much prefer the drum synthesis plugins from Bram. I have all the Ruismakers and love them all.
I don’t really use hammerhead at all though TBH. I don’t use any drum synth sequencer and for sampled sounds I prefer to use Logic’s built in samplers/DMD.
For sampled drums I make kits on my Mac using Atlas (I have too many drum machine samples and atlas is the missing link to make them all useful) and if I want to use them on the iPad I can quickly make a DMD kit by dragging the samples from atlas across or I can quickly make a Logic sampler drum kit by auto sampling the kit in Logic on the Mac then opening the project on the iPad.
Just got Noir!
It’s funny , when I first got Ruismaker FM it didn’t immediately click with me. After my 6 months offline when my wife and I separated, I picked it up again and this time it immediately resonated with me. Maybe it’s my sobriety having me in a better frame of mind, but I’m digging the hell out of it now.
Gonna be working on a solo project and Noir is gonna come in handy…I feel it!
I like Hammerhead, but maybe it's just me, but I cannot edit many of the sample parameters like it Ruismaker Noir. I mean, for example, HH decay cannot be tweaked as it can be in Noir or in Patterning 2. Also, does Hammerhead offer multi-outs?
I feel like the OG gets a maligned these days with so many other drum machines out there but it really is amazing. That, Noir, FM, and Hammerhead are my most used drum machines I’d say.
Just need two sales and I’ll be grabbing Hammerhead … my solo project as of now is going to be entirely done with Bram Bos gear !
Gonna fire up Noir shortly and I’m extremely excited 😎
You gonna go a long way with Bram Bos apps. They are high quality and very affordable.
Both apps are awesome but imho Hammerhead has the best all around value.
But as many others, and your self point out. When you can afford both, get both
Yeah I got noir and gonna get hamster head soon as I can . Not sure about troublemaker (I have pure acid) or phasemaker (I have a ton of fm stuff already ) but Salome is in the mix too, I’m a BIG mark for Bram stuff lol
@Fear2Stop Best typo of the year 'hamster head'
Oops lol
.
I’d buy it
It’s from the same folks that made SynthHamster 2
