Low latency(?) Bluetooth MIDI controller

edited December 2023 in Hardware

This looks interesting - wonder what the shipping costs to the UK would be...🤔

Yeah I think @rs2000 mentioned it somewhere which got my itchy finger hovering over the buy button.

What stopped me was previous experiences with bt gear. For me the latency just kills it if you play anything remotely percussive. I certainly couldn’t get used to my korg nanokey studio.

Perhaps if used as a secondary button controller for mutes, clip launching etc?

  • That thing looks great fun.. imagine using that fader as pitch bend while finger drumming on them little pads.. .

  • The "fader" isn't a fader - it switches between 7 different banks of buttons. The buttons (and the knob) cannot be configured/edited. Each button sends a note. The buttons cannot be set to "latch." The knob is assigned to a specific CC that can't be changed either. You can select the MIDI channel. You have to map everything within your DAW or music app. For a similar price, I would probably get a used Roli Lightpad Block.

My NMSVE is arriving tomorrow. Its small size is very important to me. Also, no wires are needed to use it.Here is a recent quote from the user manual:

If you're on iOS/iPadOS and your app doesn't have MIDI Mapping, you may be able to use MIDImatic to customize NMSVE's >default MIDI values.

The Midimatic has many conversion choices. Also, it is free. You might want to try it out even if you don’t have a noise machine device.I use AUM as my host so latching is not a problem as it can be easily done in AUM.
I intend to use the NMSVE mostly for CC controls. I will update here after I use it.

After using theNMSVE for a week or so I am throughly happy with it. Its small size is perfect for me. It is an elegantly designed piece of hardware. The fact that it needs no wires is most enjoyable. I I use it mostly for cc controls in AUM on my iPad.

It is mounted on my Roland electronic accordion with Velcro. This way it is extremely easy to relocate if needed. I make the conversion from midi notes to cc#s in AUM. Using the fader I can easily group controls any way I desire. There are seven banks of 12 switches available. I was surprised to find the fader switch is not indented. The makers cleverly included a small led which switches on/off as you change positions.
I am discovering many ways to use it. One that I just tried is using the knob as a secondary volume control when I am away from my foot pedal. Very handy. It is a keeper for sure👍🎶
