Strokes Learning Curve?

I’m intrigued by Strokes but a little intimidated by the very busy interface. Is it as confusing as it looks? I’m not a beginner but certainly not advanced- I’ve managed to coax usability out of Quantum and several other sequencers, but Strokes, in its non-linearity, seems like a different sort of beast.

Help me off the fence, here- do you think I’d regret the purchase? All it’ll take is a little encouragement, lol.

  • The SFM tutorials are a good intro for beginners.

I learned enough from them to get going.

But there's a lot of functionality I'm still not using.

One of the best apps out there in my book. It has a learning curve but is not to steep. Once you grab the basics you are all set and you'll have lots of fun with it

Agreed with @mojozart re SFM tutorials

Regarding whether you should or shouldn't purchase the app… idk, I mean how attached are you to that 20 bucks?

I like it. Do I use it regularly? No.

Is it fun? Sure is! There’s a lot of things about it that lend to “experimental” musical exploration.

I’ve spent 20 or so bucks on a lot worse…

If you have a little experience with modular it’s very easy to learn. But really you don’t need to know anything at all to enjoy it. Just load one of the demos and start tweaking.

  • Thanks, all. I bought it and it was love at first sound. Complex, and a lot to be learned, but well designed, lots of videos, and a big, beautiful, searchable user manual! Great way to get through the dark days of winter.

And the developer is absolutely awesome. He’s added so many game changing features since it’s released. It’s not even the same app as when it launched now. It’s so much more.

  • I’m a fan. Been enjoying diggging into Strokes. The dev is responsive and very helpful. The money spent is keeping me from buying a torso T1. 😂
