I thought I had signed up with audiobus and actually have an email sent from them to me. So why didn't I get an email telling me not to upgrade to ios8? And because I'd only saved back up in cloud and not on a computer, I cannot downgrade bak to ios7.1.2. "Devastated" is one of the polite words I'm using right now. And because all the apps I've brought have been with audiobus in mind, inter app audio doesn't recognise most of the apps I love to use. Thor, Korg, Cubasis, etc..are all unusable to REC. Why did I not get the heads up abou not upgrading? And PLEASE can someone tell me when Audiobus will pull their fingers out and get Audiobus working with ios8? Apparently Apple held a conference in fucking APRIL letting app developers know about the upgrade. So instead of making Audiobus look prettier and work smoother(which it undoubtedly did) with its own update around the same time, why did they not prepare Audiobus for ios8. I was a down and out crakhead junkie for 20 years until I began to fix myself and go back to music(I used to be session percussionist and teach guitar), and now I cant REC in Cubasis anymore until they sort out this ios8 issue. I have even considered going back to my old ways of crime, prison and needles. Massive depression caused by this. So PLEASE...when will this be sorted?
I review pretty much all the apps I've got to know well(Thor, Rebirth, Cubasis, ims20, Poly6, Gadget, Sunrizer, Nanostudio, Beatmaker, Filatron etc...) and I gave Audiobus 5/5. Right now, because I can't use it, it still gets 5/5 because it WAS so bloody essential. But now that's been taken way I am at a loss.

    Don't worry ,it'll pass.
Look ! It sunny outside.... Let's go out to the fields

  • Yes, so much for "it just works". I don't understand how the OS upgrade every single year has to be so disruptive/destructive.

  • I think Apple is adding a new chip and new developer tools each year also. Plus as has been noted elsewhere, there's not a lot of profit to be made on iOS music apps so for many developers this is not their day job so they don't have the time and resources to update like a desktop developer would. In addition, there seems to be about a week delay between the submission and approval of apps.

  • edited September 2014

At the moment I have been informed that it's about ten days between submission and approval.

  • @Jabra919 just to be clear, what you're experiencing isn't something the audiobus team can control. They released an updated-for-ios8 SDK a while back (over a month?). It's up to individual app makers to update their apps and get them into the store.

Unfortunately, OS updates expose a fundamental problem with an app like AudioBus. They're as on it as they possibly can be but updates to apps that use the SDK aren't automatic.

If you've been using computers to make music for any amount of time, you've felt this burn before and know not to update your OS until you're sure the stuff you use is compatible. Sorry for your loss @jabra911 and also, welcome to the club! Painful initiation complete.

  • There's also the problem of the Gold Master of iOS 8 only being available since early september... so not much time to actually submit apps and have them gone through App Review (let alone test them) if one wanted to build against the lastest iOS 8 SDK. Apple was really pushing things this year...

It's not just music, too. Extensions were broken, HealthKit was having issues...

  • I used to be thrilled for iOS updates. Now, because of the music apps, I totally dread it. And it's not even like I'm "dependent" on these apps for anything other than my own personal enjoyment. It just threatens to break everything that was working, and with no immediate benefit to the apps we use and love. Long-term, of course, there are benefits (such as the MIDI bluetooth thing).

  • True true

  • One thing I have learned from going through the IOS upgrade cycles over the past 5 or 6 years is never to upgrade the moment the upgrade comes out. I'm the same way with desktop OS upgrades. I like to consider myself cutting edge but not bleeding edge. I agree 100% with StormJH1, what's the rush?

  • Yeah. Same for apps themselves, really. If it's working, why update until you're sure?

My phone is my work and personal device, primarily, so I upgraded to iOS8 there.

My iPad2 is strictly an internet and music device, so I have no plans to upgrade it at all. Even if it were a newer device (like at least an iPad4), I still probably would not upgrade for that reason.

That logic will probably ring true for weeks, or even months. But, sooner or later, you will see enough new amps that require iOS8, or drop support for the older operating systems. This is just the not-so-fun side that goes with mobile music. But the positives on the other side are immense, and well-documented in these forums.

  • Warning should be for things that we aren't aware of. We all realize Audiobus connects hundreds of various apps together. We all know IOS 8 required apps to become compatible. So if an app is not IOS 8 compatible it will have problems. It is self evident that non compatible apps will have the problems like Apple predicted. "Not compatible" means it won't work. It's very easy to not upgrade this year and AB provides a very nice list of compatible apps. Wise waiters won't whine.

  • AudioBus can't hold our hands and tell us what to do with our iDevices. The thing about technology and its upgrade cycles is you should never just follow or get what is new out there. If you have a system that works for you then just use it instead of chasing the new shiny toy on the block. Tech changes every 12 months or so or probably every day if you want to be at the very cutting edge. I have an old Mac Pro running 10.6.8 and Logic Pro 9 and it just works. Touch wood. Stay with what works for you and you'll be glad you did.

Having said that I am an early iPhone upgrader maybe because my phone is not my main studio tool. However, I feel for the original poster. Hope things get better.
