From Shattered Seas - yes it's another OP-1F EP.

Recorded this all on the OP-1 Field while on vacation on the Oregon coast a couple weeks ago. We had really intense storms almost the whole time we were there in this little cabin, and I found it really inspiring being stuck in orders while the seas and wind raged outside.

All of the photos in this video I took as well while we were there. 100% straight from the OP-1F other than mastering. Enjoy.

  • Is this with the OP-1s effects as well? Sounds like maybe some of that magic OP-1 saturation is in there haha

Anyways, I’m about 6 mins in and it’s fantastic so far, you killed it!

Always wanted to visit Oregon. Hopefully I can make it there in a year or 2. I wanna visit there and the city where Twin Peaks was filmed.

Yes, everything 100% is only from the OP-1F.

The city where Twin Peaks was filmed will disappoint you, I used to live 30 minutes from there. The diner is still there and doing the Twin Peaks tourist thing, but the rest of the city looks modern and nothing like what you're expecting IMVHO. The Oregon coast however is absolutely amazing and I can give you some recommendations if you ever need them.

Wasn’t Twin Peaks filmed in Washington?

  • Yes, Fall City WA.

It was! I was just saying ya know since I’d be somewhat close to the general area (the area being PNW)

  • Impressive piece of work ! Sounds, textures and timbres are so tasty all along. I am always amazed how well you can use your gears. Looking for more videos of you playing !

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the EP.
I love the photography as well.
This is a really nice vibe that you’ve captured.

I love the sounds and textures and your use of filters and saturation to achieve a washed-out type of vibe without the use of warble and long delay lines.

I especially love the photo of the two tree lines and the clouds above following the same path of the top tree line. That one just leaves me in awe.

  • Thank you both. I got really lucky that week with both my music and photos!

  • Ah, what a satisfying EP. Satisfying slideshow that fit the vibe so well. :) Well done mate.

What did you use for the mastering? Which DAW and apps? Or are you like me and just stick with Logic's Mastering Assistant? 😂

  • Thank you!

Studio One, DMG Equilibrium and Limitless were what I used for the mastering this time around.

Ooo, I've heard good things about Studio One. :) Now that's rather tempting to get since I now have a laptop to manage files for the Op-1 Field, but I redownloaded FL Studio main, and closed it within 30 seconds. No way am I returning to a traditional DAW workflow outside of recording and mastering in LP4i. 😂

For me it's either my Op-1 Field, or if on iOS Koala Sampler. Oh drat, I still need to finish my blasted "2005" EP in NS2. 🤣 At least NS2 is quick to use.

  • Honestly I'm pretty agnostic when it comes to DAWs these days, I use them all more or less the same. I'd have probably reached for Live first lately, but there's a bug in the version I'm testing I didn't want to deal with so Studio One was a nice stand in.

Though I will say I also tend to find FL Studio a little too chaotic in how things are organized as well.

  • Some great textures on the OP-1 patches, and fantastic photos :)

Yep, FL Studio is a bit chaotic in how things are organised, but if I had to return to DAW usage, FL would be what I'd reach for. The reason I'm not into DAWs on laptop is having to point and click with a mouse. 🤣 (My laptop doesn't have a touchscreen. Doesn't need one though since its primary focus is OP-1 Field file management.)

Logic is definitely the best solution regarding a traditional DAW on iPad. It's easy for me to record output from the OP-1 Field and master it instantly. NS2, while not a full DAW (no audio tracks), is best for me for sequencing a full-on production. Cubasis 3 is the best for me for recording vocals and tuning them (Waves Tune RT ftw!). I can dump the recordings into Slate on NS2.

However creatively-speaking, it's tough for me to be fully creative in a DAW (no matter which one) anymore. Even in NS2. Koala and AUM are fantastic go-to apps to be creative in, but my OP-1 Field is king! Never felt so free nor has my creativity been so fluid before I got mine.

Thanks Richard. There’s a lot of different synthesis types on the OP-1, and combined with sampling and sampling from the FM radio you can get some really nice textures for sure.

  • Both music and photos were beautifully atmospheric… great work 🙏

  • Thanks for listening!
