2023 Favorite iOS Music App Award Nominations
Voting is now CLOSED! Link to the final vote is here:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/59062/2023-favorite-ios-music-app-awards
Hi, everyone! Last year I ran a user's choice awards for iOS music apps in the AUv3 Facebook group. This year I am doing it again but running it a bit differently and hoping to spread it to more of the community. I'm using a Google form to collect votes for nominations in all categories at once. Each person can vote for up to 5 of their favorite apps in each category (you don't need to use all 5 and you can skip a category altogether). After the new year, the top 5 picks in each category will go on to the final voting round to choose the winners. You will need a Google account to vote (I feel like most people do by now) to be sure of only one vote per account. Yes, I know making multiple fake accounts is a thing but what can you do? Anyway, this will also let you save your progress and go back to make edits before I close this survey. I plan to do so at noon MDT (GMT -6) on New Years Day (January 1st). Maybe this will give you something to do while you're bored around the holidays. Thanks to any who choose to participate and happy holidays everyone!

Thanks for sharing, I’ll try and cast my votes.
Hey I noticed there’s no Drambo under the hosts section. I think that’s a lot of people’s favorites so might want to add it to not skew the votes.
It's under the Modular Synth section. I have a rule for these that an app can only be in one section. Lots of modular synths can also double as hosts.
Fascinating - lots of ideas of apps to look at, and given how many apps I’ve bought this year, I’m relieved to see I’m only scratching the surface. You have the vocal/vocoder category in there twice btw.
Very nice. I can’t believe how many options we have. I submitted my response. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Yep, I just fixed that right after you posted.
P.S. I maintain this list for the same Facebook group in case you are looking for an easier way to compare apps while shopping:

Hey @BillSherry - good to see you here. Thanks for putting this together.
I was looking for GR-16 and Pure Acid in the Groovebox category. Are they in another?
GR-16 is in Drum Machines and Pure Acid is in Bass Synth (I know, it can be tricky to figure out where some apps go).
What a useful list, even just in terms of serving as a reminder of apps available in different categories. Thank you!
One thing though - I only took a brief look but I noticed that Pianoteq seems not to be there, which is a really major omission. It would be my choice for various categories, not even just for piano.
Cheers!
I still think the main Google Sheet is a better way to keep track of all the apps out there...

Pianoteq 8 is in the ROMpler category. I know it can be a bit confusing given the name, but it does a lot more than just pianos.
Got it. Thank you!
I noticed no FM category 😭
I voted though
Quit an exhaustive list. I didn’t see Rock Drum Machine by Lumbeat in the drum machine section and that is my favorite by far. I’ll be curious to see the results.
Pianoteq was in the wrong category. Forget what it was, but I think it was under ROMpler!
I don’t remember seeing a “physical modeling synth” category, so I suppose “piano” would have been the best choice?
Doh! I had the list all ready for that category and then totally skipped adding it while I was building the form. It's added now if you want to go back and edit your responses.
Maybe one day KVR will let us lowly iOS peasants into their awards, but until then we just have me, random guy on the Internet volunteering.
Thanks for the call-out, I didn't even have that app in my Google Sheet. It has been added to both that and the voting form now.
I categorize Pianoteq with ROMplers because it has sound packs for guitar, harpsichord, harp, vibraphones, celesta, glockenspiel, kalimba, xylophone, marimba, steel pans, etc.
I realize they are physically modeled instead of sample-based, but there's not really much else to compare that with on the App Store. The only other category it could really fit in is Variety Instrument with the SWAM plugins. I tend to save that for single-instrument type plugins though.
Edited and resubmitted 😎
Surprised KVR and other publications don’t do iOS awards when they do their best plugins of the year articles. Maybe next year
I think Imaginando VS Synthesizer is also a great addition to the platform. I would vote for that
Got it, yeah it's hard to categorise things. I already saw your response about why it is under Romplers too, yes it can be hard to categorise things.
I can't put VS in a category to vote since there isn't really anything else like it even on desktops.
It is anonymous, I have email collection disabled. The Google account is enabled to save prior responses (this is a fairly long survey) and to prevent individuals from voting more than once.
Proof:
Agreed. It’s a great app.
Wow, that’s some list! Question… Pianoteq is listed as a Rompler but not a piano. Is that in error? Also, missed Pipa under vocals. Thanks for all that work.
See above in this thread for the explanation about Pianoteq.
Pipa is a formant synth which will have its own category in the final voting but there are only 4 such apps so no need for nominees.
Think they mentioned further up why they added Pianoteq to the ROMpler category
I didn’t see Media Assistant under Audio Utility. It’s my favorite. So many have voted and so it’s probably not worth it but it’s an amazing utility

I'll add it to the Google Sheet so it can at least make it into the mix for next year.
