Finally Home

I pulled the trigger on the HALion sound collection based off of the Nylon Acoustic sounds (and those cellos!)
Thought I would try making a video again. Time to get back in the saddle.

  • Hope you’ve had a great holiday season so far. Happy new year 🎊

This sounds great! I love the guitar sounds with HALion. Probably my favorite part. And the articulations are excellent.

Thank you HotStrange. Hope yours was well also, and that you have a wonderful New Year as well.

Those guitars sound great. Excellent composition that uses them to the fullest. This reminded me of a place we go for special occasions. It’s a Spanish Tapas place that brings in some great Flamenco guitar players from time to time. It’s always a great time.

Glad to see you back in the saddle! Keep in touch. Happy New Year!

Edit - We just decided to go there for this New Year’s Eve. We’ll be thinking of you.

  • Thank Paul.
Have a Happy New Year and a great night out.

  • Wow I’m impressed with the sound quality. And your arrangements were beautiful. Nice work!

  • This sounds great. I really enjoyed it! The end cuts abruptly. Intended? HNY, mate. Glad you’re here.

Gotta work on my endings😁. I thought about adding vocals and stretching this out a bit just couldn't come up with anything I liked.
Glad you enjoyed it and hope you have a Happy New Year too. The ABF wouldn't feel like home without you.

  • The video is super cool.
    The ending is brutal.
Everything before the ending is great.

    Thanks jo92346.
I do need to think more in terms of a beginning, a middle, and and end.
Midi isn't quite as flexible in Cubasis as it is in AUM so building this was a learning experience but I think the sounds are worth it.
Hope your New Year is a happy one!

  • @MadeofWax Ive been using cubase since the first Atari version, then on Mac, then on pc. Can’t use it on iPad for lack of temp and signature track. very likely I will not go back.
Tried AUM, never understood how to use it or what to do with it. I just don’t get what it is supposed to do for me.
Thinking or beginning - middle - end, or more conventional song writing is always good. You could also think in terms of story telling, that is what I do.

For me, AUM is a playground. I send different midi generators into each other and various synths and samplers after setting up a basic outline of tempo and key. Usually after some experimentation a phrase or riff will surface and when enough of the pieces come together I start recording.
With Cubasis it's more like traditional songwriting. The freedom to route midi any old way you like and discover happy accidents isn't there. I've crashed Cubasis more in the past few days trying to force it to my will ( along with a helping handful of Audiobus 3) but it still can't approach the freedom in AUM.
It's probably good for me anyway. Limits can help with creativity and getting out of my comfort zone will force me into a more structured approach. I just wanted pretty sounds. Alas...🤪

  • @MadeofWax that is so totally different from what I do. I don’t actually really understand what you’re doing. Routing midi or sending generators into each other are concepts I don’t get at all. Don’t get the purpose of it or what it actually does.
Just keep doing it, because it sounds great.

  • I love pretty sounds. That’s all I want. For the ending, how about a big-ass delay that just fades out for a really long time!

Have a wonderful New Year’s. We’ll drink a toast to you over a bottle of the good stuff.

  • I like what you did with those new sounds and enjoy your iOS rock. Hope it is a fun, fruitful year for you

  • Excellent use of the new Halion sounds! I really enjoyed it and the video too - which AI did you use for the video?
    All the best for 2024!

I use the Animator script in Stable Diffusion. Can’t remember which checkpoint I used. Might be Deliberate, might be Absolute Reality but I use Automatic 1111 version 1.5 since my humble rig can’t handle the later versions.

  • Loved the video, especially the shadows of the trees which were defying the laws of physics. The music was excellent as well, you have a real knack with the Riffler, ZOA etc type generation apps 🙏

Generative apps are so much fun. It's almost like improvising on my guitar in that I really don't have a clear idea where things might go and those happy accidents end up being the best parts.
Stable Diffusion Animator is basically the same for video. I'm never sure how the prompts will be interpreted and sometimes it takes quite a few tries to get something useful, but sometimes you get lucky and something better than you imagined pops up.
